CAIs are a waste of money!!! They do not increase mileage (in fact it’s impossible) performance doesn’t equal better mileage. Yes you might see 5-10 more horsepower. In order to get the most performance out of a CAI you need a new “jail broken “ ECU and be specifically tuned for a CAI. CAIs do give off a cool sound. ?

Yeah, I learned the hard way! I spent a few hundred on an S&B CAI and I lost 2mpg overall. It wasn't until I talked to a professional tuner that I realized what I'd done. Needless to say, I went back and put the OEM back on and sold the S&B (and took a significant loss).

Yeah…. But some just want the 5-10 extra HP, and mileage be dammed, ?

There is your 99% fail.

My first CAI was back in the late 60s. #10 food service can (find on the bottom shelf at Walmart grocery).

Then take some Rubber hose the same size as the opening on the carb and run them back from the backside of the #10 can to the air box.

So strapped to the fender is a # 10 can, rubber hosed to the air box.

The formula: OUTSIDE air, forward-facing collector.

Your performance gains don't show up until you hit about 35-40 mph...
