Yeah. I went to look at what the cost difference was between a V6 Rubicon and a 392 was and it shocked me. It's right at $50k more, or almost twice as much.
That is not correct, the current difference is $36,166 based on 392 Rubicon Final Edition at $102,585 vs Rubicon X at $66,419. Even less of a difference for the '24 I have because you were not forced to get the Final Edition but merely a straight up 392 Rubicon.

Are you taking into account other equipment differences like the XR upgrade? Yeah, it's sill a lot more than actual cost plus a $7k fine. I don't think that wrecks my thesis. Reintroduction of the Hemi to the RAM 1500 is possibly tied to the near certain change in law and not just the change in management.

A 5.7 has to cost less than a Hurricane I6. Maybe the Wagoner series will get it. At any rate I see less management resistance to a 5.7 Wrangler now. Pricing on the 392, as on everything, is what the market will bear. Perhaps they thought there would be more profit from limiting supply.
No, he has not factored in a comparable Rubicon which would be an X model. When you do this the difference is $36,166 and even then you are missing the full time 4 wheel drive component of the 392.

Regardless of where you fall on this removal of the fines, in that funny way the powers that be make law and compromise, technically the CAFE rules still apply, however breaking them results now in zero fines.

Yeah, we're going to be able fit in a phone booth the number of automobile manufacturers that are going to spend millions trying to meet these now volunteer standards, while their competition invests that money in other projects.

I think it's the hypocrisy that bothers me here. If you're going to do away with the incentives to meet these goals, I'd like to see politicians man up and own that, officially abolishing the rules, as that seems to be exactly what they effectively did here.

The CAFE rules were not abolished because that is a policy change requiring 60 votes in the Senate. Getting rid of the penalties was a work around.

There is no way FCA will give away a $20K+ engine for $2K
The 5.7l has never been $20k. The 5.7l was no more than $5-6k more than the 3.6l on the WK2 and the Ram 1500. Pricing on the Wrangler should be similar.

Edit: according to the previous post, it was only $1,500 on the Ram. Either way, not $20k.

Great news!

Still, it's not obvious why Jeep would be motivated to undercut the 392 JL by $34,166, or something like that. They would likely have a difficult time selling 392 JLs with that kind of disparity. Probably would make more sense to have the 5.7 be just a little cheaper than the 392.

Yeah, I know it is ridiculous to charge that much for basically an upgraded engine. And, otherwise I agree totally, even though I own a 392 I think the 5.7 hemi would be a better fit.

The 392 Jeep has always been waaaay overpriced for what you get.
I would love one myself but i have never been able to get past the feeling of being ripped off by stellantis if i did.
The examples of reasonable cost bumps in other cars that offer it as an upgrade proves the point.
~$36k more (essentially a decent second commuter / grocery hauler vehicle amount of money) to go from the v6 to the hemi makes it feel opportunistic on their part.
Kudos and no aspersions cast at those who own one, just personally i couldn’t stomach Stellantis making that much profit of my hard earned cash.

Even this seems high. When I bought my ’23 XR, I did as close to an apples to apples comparison as you could. My XR is fully optioned and has the Full Time transfer case like the 392 (which otherwise comes pretty much fully loaded). So pretty much the only difference was the engine, and there was an $18K price differential between the two quotes.

A Rolex is still just a watch.
You pay alot more for perceived premiums.
It's how status symbols and capitalism works.

Capitalism will prevail, and the car companies will
Make money. They will adapt to any ridiculous changes in federal or state law. They have been doing this since the 1960’s. IMO. Except for Chrysler’s K car , the ford pinto, and a few other disasters, they’ll find a way to charge us monthly for heated seats

Ford just reduced the price of the Raptor by $10,000. The Toyota Supra had a price reduction years ago. Sometimes the approach is to keep the base MSRP the same but make some options standard.
price reduced or MSRP reduced, big difference.
