Built in WiFi?

I am wondering if anyone else has their built in WiFi working in their Jeep.

I recently bought a 2021 Rubicon for 4XE. In getting the XM and other features online the WiFi fails to connect.

i was told to update the firmware at a dealership, which I did

AT&T continues to tell me to check their vehicle website to see when it is available.

so it seems like an AT&T issue that is out of Jeeps hands?

Anyone else using WiFi from their Jeep?

I had a trial when I first got my '21. It was slow and spotty- only used it a couple times.
I know there have been issues with AT&T providing service, too. Honestly it's not worth it.

Unless you're a luddite (in which case you probably wouldn't be asking this), the hotspot on your smartphone is 100% going to be significantly better, easier, and cheaper to use for whatever it is that you want WiFi in your vehicle for.

I had it for month or 3 months when I bought my Jeep. My phone was better and I have ATT. Not really worth it the data limit was ridiculous, even unlimited will only get you in reality 22gb then they throttle you. The price was ridiculous also, 29.95?

I just activated my trial and it's $20 per month unlimited if you already have ATT. My jeep is in for maintenance, so I haven't tested it fully yet, but Im heading out to the wilderness soon, so we'll see how it is out there.

1000% agree, I never understood why vehicle manufacturers think anyone wants this. Why not just allow your vehicle to connect to the hotspot on your phone that you already have?

Also even the 2024 Jeeps use 4G LTE as the backhaul for their WiFi - they don't support 5G connections. So not only will it be more expensive than your phone's hotspot, it'll also be quite a bit slower.

Only thing I can think is so you don't have your kids connected to your hotspot on road trips. Trying to remember, but not sure you can wireless carplay and hotspot at the same time since it utilizes wifi.

If you have a Samsung phone, you can set up a Bixby routine that automatically activates your phone's mobile hotspot when connected to your Jeep's Bluetooth and/or when Android Auto launches.

If you don't have a Samsung, you could do the same with Tasker or any other similar app.

I don't have built-in WiFi installed, but my sister's Carlinkit Tbox Plus has a similar feature. She bought a SIM card to plug into the Tbox and uses it as wireless WiFi when traveling. It's more convenient than a hotspot, cause no matter who gets out of the car to run errands, everyone in the car can continue to use the WiFi. I think it's a great solution.
