I have some small smudges and scratches I want to buff out. Any recommendation on what compound/polish to use?

I know there’s super high speed low drag pro detailed stuff out there some will recommend, but I personally like Adam’s One Step polish for lighter duty work. Did my whole F-350 with it and a yellow pad, came out pretty damn good.

3M compound and polishes
I misread your question, for light scratches you can get away with glazes below
Both of these will take care of it, for harder areas the 3m will blend that nicely
https://www.amazon.com/3M-39007-Hand-Glaze-16/dp/B0002NUNIO?th=1
I also like to use https://www.amazon.com/Mothers-01716-Ceramic-Polish-Coat/dp/B07YSW49LT
For tougher scratches and really needing to work the paint buffing and using a buffer
https://www.amazon.com/3M-Perfect-Rubbing-Compound-36060-6PK/dp/B00DCMM48E
then followed by the one of the glazes above etc then wax..

Start with a very light compound and work your way to heavier compounds if needed. The application technique usually matters more than the compound. A quality orbital buffer (with a treated pad and very light pressure) is best.

You can mess up your paint trying to buff stuff out.

Read up on technique and proceed carefully. Chemical Guys has a good video series.

After playing with the more expensive stuff, I just use good old Megs stuff now.

For light scratches/swirl marks, I've always had good luck with Meguiars Ultimate Compound. Works pretty good on clear coat finishes.
