While trying to track down a front end vibration I changed out my ball joints with MC Baller Joints. After reassembling I had a ABS light, traction control light, "brake" in red and warning to service traction control. I did have a mishap in that when installing the axle and unit bearing the holes for the unit bearing weren't lining up on the driver side (I had 4wd engaged so I wouldn't have to service the FAD when doing the passenger side). I jumped in the car stepped on the brakes, started the car, and disengaged 4wd. That let me spin everything and got it lined up. When putting on the brake caliper back in the pads wouldn't fit over the rotor. It dawned on me that when I started the car I had stepped on the brakes with the caliper not installed. One of the pistons had forced out a little bit. I was able to retract the piston, but not before dropping the caliper and having it hang from the brake line (doh, just a comedy of errors).
Went for a test drive with all the dash lights and the car had very little brakes and pulled to the right. I figured I needed to get the piston pushed back out and pumped the brakes a bunch of times. It still pulled to the right and under hard braking ABS would go crazy. Went back home and pulled the codes, getting C0507-00 right front wheel speed sensor "a" range/performance - anti lock brakes extended and C0050-00 brake system hydraulic leak - anti lock brakes extended. I looked for leaks on the side I dropped the caliper but everything looked fine. I'm guessing when I pressed the brakes and the piston extended out the Jeep saw the fluid drop and went straight for "fluid leak". I cleared the codes and nothing came back on a second test drive, but it still pulls to the right and ABS goes nuts.
Just trying to figure out what to do? Could there be a leak from the brake line after dropping the caliper that I'm not seeing? Do I need to bleed the ABS system? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
