I tend to use Jim Beam for things like holiday drinks and punches. Sipping tends to be Woodfield Reserve, but I don't sip much. I am more of a Whiskey girl... shhhh

I love me some Scotch, but I can't do the smokey, peaty stuff. Johnny Black is about as much peat as I can handle. But you give me a good Highland or Speyside and I'll sip on that all day long!

Try Some Talisker Storm or Monkey Shoulder, reasonably priced (at today's prices) and easy sippers.

I do enjoy the Monkey Shoulder. Not so much with the Talisker. My you-can-always-find-and-afford Scotch is usually Aberlour 12yr.

Okay my birthday and just cracked a bottle of Maker’s 46 Cask Strength. Wow!
Happy Birthday! A great bottle to celebrate with.
For some reason, MM46CS is a hard one to find around me (NW Atlanta) but I was able yo get a few in SC last year.

Thanks! I’ve had the 46 before and it is good but the cask strength is phenomenal.
Check out the 46 Cask Strength
Thanks for that advice… wasn’t sure what I had earlier. Definitely was regular, not premium CS. WOW!

I am so bummed. The liquor store I built a great relationship over the last 5 years has sold and under new ownership. They used to sell all allocated stuff at SRP however they would hold it all in the back and sell those bottles to loyal customers. The customers that gave all their business to the store not just wanting to "flip" the good stuff. That is how I was able to get some really good stuff.

I went in there last week and new ownership has now jacked up the prices on EVERYTHING. They are now putting all the allocated stuff out in a case with stupid ridiculous mark-ups. Like for example Blantons at 2.5 times retail in which I can drive 20 minutes to Buffalo Trace and get a bottle for retail. They did a barrel pick of Eagle Rare and selling it for $150 WTF it is a $40 bottle.

So frustrating. I guess I am back to my cabinet and just drink the stuff I already have. F those guys.

This. So very much this. My friends and I used to really enjoy "the hunt." You'd spend days looking for any of a few bottles, finally find one, and buy it for a high but reasonable price.

These distributors and some owners have just completely killed it for us. Now you hunt and hunt and finally find something and it's 5x what it should be. Just no fun any more.

We have a local owner who's really honest with us; shows us his books, his invoices, etc. So we know what he goes through to get the rare stuff. Seeing those numbers, I can't blame him for his prices. I just can't bring myself to pay them, either.

I've adjusted to just drinking what I have, even the stuff I'd prefer to save for special occasions. That and I started exploring the world of tequila, while that is still not in vogue.

It's been two fold for me. I probably have more than I should ever consume plus the stores wanting secondary prices. I've all but given up on hunting and backed off on consuming. There's a market correction already happening. To-Kill-Ya is on the rise with those that want to be the cool kids.

Yep! As someone who decidedly does not want to be counted among the cool kids, this is why I'm building my tequila stash now - while I can still afford the ones I want!

New guy and didn't read the 63 pages, so I'm sure my favorites have been mentioned already; probably several times...

But, no favorite daily or mixer. Too hard to nail down. My top 5...

1. Buffalo Trace
2. Bulleit
3. Tin Cup
4. Pendleton
5. Not a bourbon, but Irish whiskey and is so good and cheap - Paddy's.

For my favorite and most delicious bourbon I've had...
