Boat Side Slider Design?

Why is it that every boat side slider for the JL seems to have way more metal on the body than needed? There is a big wing going up the body in front of the door, a peak between the doors and small swoop behind the rear door. Why can't the body mounted portion be straight across lined up with the portion that runs under the doors?

Is there a structural need for this, or is it just an aesthetic choice?

Helps spread the load the body metal is just thin sheet metal so you don't want it to start bending the body as you come down on rocks

you want that body armour on the JL. i've seen a few vids of body damage, right above the rock slider. extra armour is extra protection and cheaper than a repair. paint it body colour, and it won't stick out as much.

I think the body colored paint will have to be the trick. Paint the portion that hits the body the same OEM color and left the boat side black.
