I have the same issue. It's on the list of things for Jeep to look into today when I bring it in.

My wife's phone has the same problem. Deleting the Bluetooth connection from the phones and the Jeep and repairing does nothing. When I start the Jeep, both phone report a Bluetooth connection with the Jeep and the Jeep list which phone is connected in Bluetooth setting. i.e., it's not a Bluetooth issue.

The issue seems to simply be that the head unit requires the user to select the source. Even when the only valid source is Bluetooth, I still have to select that source.
Keep us updated on your visit, Keeper. If any assistance is needed while in service, don't hesitate to connect with us.

One and only thing I have talked with my dealer about, and lots of internet research. I called them rather than make the 100 mile drive, they said "dont bring that junk back here we cant fix it, it's a Uconnect problem and they are an outside vendor we cant do anything unless they release a software update". They may have been wrong, I'm actually hoping someone here proves them wrong before I go spent over a grand upgrading this garbage. Sorry, I should have quantified my post with "my dealer says it wont be fixed".
The work around is click the Media button once then it will say connect to device, Press and hold the Media button again for 2 seconds and it will play your music automatically. I found it the hard way.

Thanks Lydia, but honestly I can't be bothered. My nearest dealership is over 100 miles away and this is too minor of an issue for me to take time off work and make the trip, I'll only be going if I have a major mechanical malfunction. I appreciate the concern though.

I have the same annoying thing going on in my Sport S. It's funny though, as I'm currently driving a rental Grand Cherokee with the Uconnect and it fires right up to Bluetooth media, and starts playing Pandora or music that I have on my phone without all the button pushing. I mean its the same system, it should work in the JL the same way. I know its a small thing, but for as much as we paid for these vehicles, the small details matter. I was hoping the issue would be corrected after I had my system reflashed (to correct the odometer showing 999,999 miles upon start up), but it did not.

I'm not even sure that pressing for 2 seconds is required. Most of the time, I just have to press Media twice and it works. I'd been clicking into Choose Source/Bluetooth for months when I accidentally discovered this by pressing twice instead of once. It even works when the camera view is showing when I'm in reverse, since when you start the engine and immediately go into reverse (to back out of the garage, etc), you don't even see the media screen until after you start going forward, but pressing Media twice switches to bluetooth music.

Sucks that you need to do this but pushing media twice seems easy enough.

Digging this up, but wondering if there has been any progress made here?

I’m getting tired of clicking media twice AND hitting the auto start/stop button lol

I am having this same issue, I was not expecting to find a post that had no resolution. It is super annoying. What I can say at this time is that it does work 1/100 times I get in the Jeep. Randomly it just starts playing Bluetooth music, most of the time its the radio. There has got to be an answer out there somewhere as I would expect a lot more replies on this.

I have the same problem on my 2020. Seems like this issue would have been resolved already

Agreed! I just got my 2019 JL Unlimited Sports back from dealership yesterday and I couldn't wait to try this as it was most frustrating that the Bluetooth doesn't connect automatically. I pressed the Media button twice and it worked! Still stupid that it doesn't connect automatically but pressing the Media button twice is much better than the longer way of going to source etc! Thank you!!!!

I have a 2020 JLU with 5in. head unit. When listening to bluetooth and a call comes in, it automatically jumps to radio after the call ends. That is super annoying. I will try the media button double-tap for bluetooth. Thanks for the tip!!
