Hey guys, long time reader on the forum and finally had to ask for professional advice. I have a ‘18 jlus with safety package. My blind spot monitoring is bad on its best of days. I have checked the fuses and cleaned off the sensors in the taillights. The yellow alert will do its normal lighting up when I first start Jeep. It will nearly always detect something large like a semi truck. Usually will pick up a Tahoe sized vehicle but the light will come on and off when riding next to it. No chance of getting a sedan. Any ideas on what to look for? Thanks in advance!

I have a 2023 392 and the blind spot detection has never been reliable. I always use my mirrors and look over my shoulder. I wish there was an after market solution I could replace stock

These sensors detect at the 5 o'clock and 7 o'clock zone space not the usual 3/4 or 8/9 o'clock zones.

Mine is pretty damn reliable. You might consider having a dealer look at it before your warranty expires.

I have noticed that mine will detect in the areas you mentioned. It just seems like they point insanely high up

Have any of you added wider tires or fender flares? I saw a photo of what I thought was some sort of seal behind the Jeep tail lights. I sent a photo to my favorite parts guy to see if I could order a set. (Red arrow pointing toward the part)

He indicated that they are not seals/gaskets, but are part of the tail light assembly that comes with the Extreme Recon package. He said the black spacer looking part was required to reposition the tail light assembly so that the BLIS worked with the wide tires & flares.

Just a thought.

Interesting! I will definitely look into that! I do have a small lift and wider tires that stick out past the stock flares. Do you know if that’s a part that is aftermarket available?

I do not have the part number. If you have a good parts guy he should be find it for you. According to the parts guy I buy from, he said that it is part of the entire assembly, so you'd have to order a complete light. :(

Here's a better photo and his comments from our conversation.

"No, that's only serviced with the taillamp assembly. The piece was added to wide fender models like Recons in order to improve the BSM systems functionality, I dont think it has anything to do with water or dust intrusion. Some of the Recon guys are removing them as they dont like the look so check the forums for ones for sale. "
