Good Evening All,

I have a 2021 JLU 3.6 etroque with some slight modifications and I’m sure I have some parasitic draw. I work on a ship so I’m away for a few months and the car probably gets driven every other week when I’m away. Probably just about every time while I am away at work my battery dies. Just curious if any one has installed a battery shut off switch on the their jeep and what they’ve done. I never have a problem when I’m home because I drive it everyday. This is also the third time I’ve had to get a new battery because I guess it was drained too far and will no longer take a charge. Thank you in advance for the help.

Not on my Jeep, but on my old truck I put in a big switch on the battery positive, like the one that came with my winch. I ended up finding the short.. trailer wiring that had burnt to the muffler.

On my Jeep I have a battery cutoff for the winch, and other things run off a relay that turns on with ignition.

Yeah I think it’s most likely the winch because that is the only thing I have wired directly to the battery everything else goes to my switch panel which powers on from ignition.

AGM battteries can be recovered from the dead. It takes a quality AGM charger/conditioner to recover a dead AGM battery.

You might want to try an Optima 1200 or Odyssey 25 charger to maintain the battery while you are gone. The Optima Charger will run you about $300 and the Odyssey Charger will run you about
$330.

As for a battery cut-off switch, I am using a Flaming River 500-Amp battery cut-off switch for my winch. The cost for the switch is about $210, not including any custom length cables and connectors.

Just don't connect the charger directly to the battery post after the IBS, connect it before the IBS.

Thank you. That’s quite the battery setup, did you do that yourself or is it a kit?

The Dual Battery System is the Genesis Gen 3 with the Odyssey 25 batteries which is a kit specific for the 23 Wrangler.

It's not specific to the Wrangler or '23. It fits all US 18+ JL/JT, except diesels and 392.

How do you like it?
The Gen 3 is still sold, but not current; the OMEGA is the current generation, and its REDARC DC-DC charger makes it vastly superior.

Killswitch is an option, but the downside is it resets a lot of things when the battery has been disconnected for a while.

You can run a small 12V solar trickle charger if you leave your vehicle outside. Some of the decent ones come with MPPT controller that has AGM charging preconfigured. By default, the 12V port in the trunk is configured to be in closed circuit even with the ignition off, and some kits come with the 12V cigarette lighter plug, so you can just plug it in there instead of directly to the battery. The 12V socket fuse is good up to 10A, so you won't have to worry about that blowing with the low rate of these trickle chargers. I think this will be the most cost-effective way for you, provided that keep your vehicle parked outside, or if you park your vehicle inside, figure out a way to get the panel to where it can get exposure to sunlight.

Another option would be to get an automotive lithium battery like the Antigravity H7, which is superior to AGM when it comes to self-discharge rate (≤1% per month versus ~1-3% per month for AGM). This is probably an overkill for your application.

I’ll definitely have to look into that, my jeep doesn’t fit in the garage so it lives outside.
