Barnwell - 11/1/25

I’m planning to spend a day at Barnwell on 11/1 if anyone would like to join. I’m thinking I’ll get there about 8:30, probably head home around 4-4:30.

I’ll be sticking to the easier stuff since my jeeps not built up much and it’s been 12 or so years since i went wheeling. I’d really like to have at least one person with me, but I’m not going to ask anyone to do boring stuff they don’t want to.

If anyone’s interested, we can make more concrete plans when it gets closer.

I'm in South Carolina right now, but my initial answer is yes, I'd like to go. Will look again in a couple weeks.

Not going to be able to make a weekend out of it, could swing a day but the 3+ hr drive one way will not allow this to happen. Lmk when you want to hit Decatur one day or we can just meet up for lunch.

We're getting pretty close. Looks like Barnwell is due for some rain this saturday, and maybe a sprinkle early next week. If its a swamp, I'm likely going to bail. I'm not interested in going mudding. I really hope its dry enough to run. Who all else is in?

Yeah, here in East Tx., we're expecting rain to start Friday night and continue all day Saturday. Some places around here are expecting 4-5 inches of rain. Not good for Barnwell. That place will be a giant Slip 'n Slide.

Damn. That's what I was afraid of. If we have to reschedule, would the 22nd work for anyone? That's the only other weekend I have available in November.

I've been out there before after a rain. Red Clay and Water is usually not the best. It will hold water making puddles (some of them pretty deep out there) and as someone said above will be slippery.

Let's see how much rain truly falls. Forecast is already looking a bit better than even yesterday.

Last time I was out there with @BDinTX we had a downpour the night before and I went thinking we weren't going to have a fun time and it was going to be a slippery mess, but it was actually surprisingly dry by the time we got there at 8:00 a.m.

They actually had a squall pass over 4 hours before we got there, It was still mostly dry.

By the time noon time hit we weren't having any issues with slipping, and by the end of the day the place was completely dry.

It confused me because everyone was telling me just what everyone is saying above, the place is a shit hole the second it rains, and I found it to be the exact opposite. The lady at the front desk even told me when I checked in that it dries out pretty quick there. She said they have good drainage.


As an added note, I have been inviting every person I meet at work out on the road who has a Wrangler or an off-road capable vehicle. I doubt any of them are going to show up... I mean if a stranger invites you out to the middle of the woods, are you going to go?

Regardless, I'm excited and I will be heading out there rain or snow or hail! Worst case scenario I figure we stick to the easier trails until 10:00 or so when the trails are 90% dry.
