I still get a little vibration (closer to 70mph) but it's not as severe and also not constant.

I must have something else going on but for the life of me can't figure out what it is.
It seems most Rubicons have this 'thrumming' vibration at speed. There is a big thread about it. No one has pinpointed the cause, but many have ruled out wheels, tires and driveshafts.

Years ago I used air soft pellets in bias swampers. It was okay, but I only drove to and from trail. The bias plys didn’t help either. I just put 40”s with beadlocks on my 392. I used Magnum glass balance beads. I was a little hesitant because it would be a pain to remove them is they didn‘t work. They have been great, all the way up to 80 mph. Occasionally I’ll feel a weird vibration and I just change my speed a bit and it goes away.

Hi Everyone,

I don't have experience with TPMS, and I don't want to damage it on one of my wheels...

The problem is that one of the valve stems on our JL is mostly plugged. It takes a lot of time to air down, and to refill.

I removed the core (valve) and it's still restricted. I used a tig filler rod to feel inside the valve stem and I can feel something about 3" inside.

The shop that mounted the tires/wheels used beads in 2 tires. (I didn't think that this was one of them.)

Is it normal to feel a restriction with a TPMS sensor?

For those who have had a tire bead restriction, is it something I can dislodge from outside the wheel, or does the TPMS need to be removed?

Thanks,

Jeff

You cannot stick something through the bottom of a TPMS valve stem. You’re only getting the Tig rod in as long as the valve stem itself is. The screw that holds the TPMS sensor actually comes up from the bottom of the valve itself. The air gets in and out From the sides of the base of the valve stem.

1996cc,

That makes sense. Thanks for the picture.

I take it that the valve stem can be separated from the sensor by removing the nut? Any blockage can be removed that way?

I wonder if it would work to let the tire deflate all the way (JL sitting on a jackstand) and then giving it a quick blast of CO2 to maybe dislodge something?

Removing the sensor won’t really help any from my memory of having on in my hand. But your idea of a blast of air is definitely worth a shot.
It’s not a big deal to pop the bead down in that side and replace it needed also. I use my hi-lift jack to push the bead off while lifting up on the hitch of my truck.

@Jeff2018 where you successful on clearing the blockage from your TPMS? If not, any Discount Tire location could replace the stem if it is a separate item, and there would be no cost for the repair.
