if you drive 50,000 miles without a repeat failure, it’s fixed.
I understand your perspective because on one hand, 50,000 miles is a lot. But if his Jeep is still toasting bearings on only one side, there's clearly still an unfixed defect that existed within the warranty period. Individual bearings may last long enough, but there's still a problem with the axle.

It's kind of like if you build a house with a bad foundation and your ceiling plaster keeps cracking as it moves. Yes, you can keep fixing the plaster every 3 months, but you haven't fixed the defect itself that's causing the apparent damage (the defect isn't in the plaster).

Whats the best way to test for a bad hub? jack it up and give it a wiggle?

Normally I'd agree but he's the guy who has had 3 driver's side bearing fail but is still on the original passenger side. Something must be misaligned in that axle. I'd think they'd just replace the front axle instead of a Jeep though.
I agree theres something wrong with the geometry of the axle. The bearing itself might offer clues
