Did a five tire rotation the other day and didn't have my usual help returning the spare to the rear mount. I have the Terraflex tire carrier. The next time I backed out of the garage, a large black cloud appeared in the display. Yep, I had been clumsy and severly scratched the backup camera lens ... didn't even realize it was possible. Seems that, although the Terraflex is worse, even the OEM mount leaves the lens standing a little bit proud. A check for a replacement returned an approximately $150 price tag. Hmm. So, out came a tube of Ultra-Brite toothpaste, a soft rag, and a bowl of water. After about 45 minutes of hand polishing, there was no evidence of the scratch and no distortion in the display.

Don't be dumb like me ... be careful installing the spare tire on it's mount and don't scratch the lens.

OK, where did you find the replacement? I sorta did the same thing except I ripped/cut the camera wire.

Didn't need a replacement lense since the toothpaste and elbow grease removed the scratch.

For polishing there's also some lovely stuff called "Polywatch" that does a remarkable job on all things made of clear acrylic. Standard item to have on hand if you own a Hesalite (acrylic) crystal Speedmaster Moonwatch.
