Back Up Lights - Replacing Halogen With LED?

I am really confused. The all knowing internet has told me I can / cannot replace my stock halogen back up lights with LED's. Tie them into the existing circuit, new circuit, or ?????? Thanks.

Well, from what I've read, the ECU/CANBUS system in the JL is very sensitive to circuit RESISTANCE CHANGES and won't allow lighting changes without various changes and I'm not familiar with those--

Since my RUBY has the AUX SWITH SYSTEM I added HALOGEN REAR LIGHTS using that--

There seems to an OBCESSION WITH LED LIGHTS !

Just purchase LED bulbs at Auto Zone, Oreilly, etc.

I replaced all my exterior bulbs with LED except headlights. You might want to install resistors for the fender lights and rear tail lights (which act as rear blinkers as well obviously), or you will get hyper flashing blinkers on the dash indicators. The lights themselves will not hyper flash if you dont have resistors. There are videos on how to install the resistors on the JL fenders specifically. For the rear blinkers there are 3 wires to the bulb. Ive read on here that the resistors tie into the purple and blue wires. I have yet to install my resistors for the rear blinkers. There are videos on how to disassemble the rear lights.
I have noticed that the hyper flashing on the dash indicators is intermittent. Some times it hyper flashes sometimes it doesnt. I do have resistors for the front so maybe thats why but Indont know for sure.
Anyway, So yes you can put LEDs for your reverse lights.

I put LED bulbs in my rear taillights, and I installed the resistors on the pruple and blue and I still get warnings that the Right Rear Turn signal is out, and get hyperflashing.

I do not get hyperflashing on the left side anymore, which is also hooked up to Purple and Blue, so maybe the right side is different colors. I just haven't had time to go out and check and even then, it's random, so I just have to drive for a few days until I see if it triggers.

Anyone find a set of lights that fit into the hitch and plug into the trailer wiring without having to splice? I'm thinking it would be a really simple way to add a backup light since it would be already hooked into reverse. I did some searching around but didn't find anything that really looked good.

I did the exact same thing. Gives the option of not blinding people behind you under normal conditions but lighting up the world when you need to.
