ALL of our 2018+ JLs auto-lock after the key fob is far enough away from the proximity sensors for a certain period of time. I know this from personal experience; I just cannot tell you what the time hack is.

Also, regarding the previous poster’s concern about being auto-locked out of your vehicle in a hostile environment - it does not matter for a few reasons. First, if you leave the key fob in the vehicle and the fob is transmitting, it will not lock, even if you try to lock it. Second, if your key fob battery is dead and you leave it in the vehicle and get locked out, you’re an idiot and deserve to be locked out. Third, you can always turn off auto-lock in your Uconnect system. Fourth, if you take the fob with you and it auto-locks, and for some reason proximity doesn’t work, nor does any amount of button-pushing, you have a unique, genius thing hidden in your key fob - THE KEY.
Neither my 2024 nor 2026 have automatic door locks from walking away.
For the 2026 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon X, there is no factory feature that automatically locks the doors when you walk away from the vehicle (often called “walk-away auto-lock” or passive locking). Based on how Jeep has implemented the keyless entry/proximity system for Wrangler models:

  • Passive/“walk-away” locking (doors lock automatically just because the key fob is out of range) is not offeredon Jeep Wranglers in the same way many other brands do. Owners of newer JL/JLU Wrangler models report that simply walking away from the vehicle with the fob does not cause the doors to lock on their own. You typically need to press the lock button on the door handle or on your key fob to lock them once you exit. Reddit+1
  • Some Jeeps do have an auto-lock while driving feature (doors lock once you reach a certain speed), which is a separate function from walk-away locking. Wrangler Forum
  • Third-party alarm/remote systems can add a walk-away lock feature, but this isn’t part of the Wrangler’s standard or optional equipment. Facebook
So for a 2026 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon X, you won’t get doors that automatically lock just because you walk away with the key — you’ll need to manually lock them either on the door handle button or with the key fob (or via an aftermarket system).

I, personally, am not a big proponent of automatic door lock/unlock. When I want the doors unlocked, I unlock them. When I want them locked, I lock them. I very often do NOT want the doors to lock when I walk away so I am glad they don't. I get that some people like all this aurtomatic stuff but I would immediately turn it off (like I did with the proximity door unlock feature and did for the electric tailgate lock/unlock by unplugging it). I'd go for crank windows, too, if I could reach them all safely from the front seat while driving (which is not possible). I was half joking about not having auto-up windows, only because we have auto-down and the two kinda go together. I'm not so sure this move from mechanical to computer/electronic/electrical controls and devices has been all that great of a thing. It increases the cost and complexity and decreases the reliability and repairability. And we wonder why vehicles are so expensive.

Thanks Don; I have been thoroughly chastised and reeducated about this, with much insulting humor - well-deserved, I might add.🤣

Not deserved at all. People who try and contribute and also ask questions are often chastised on this forum. I dont think it right when people are here just trying to learn and also help others.
Thank you for participating.

Don, the joking at my expense in this thread has come from some buddies of mine, not strangers. I have a lot of love and respect for those guys, and I know it’s mutual.

As Internet forums go, I believe this is the best, least contentious and most professionally-run forum I’ve participated in. There will, of course, always be over-the-top assholes and inappropriate behavior now and then. That’s true in everyday life too, though.

As for the occasional sarcasm, I actually enjoy it! With that said though, it’s hard to put that across in a lighthearted, respectful but teasing way, as we are dealing with the written word, which is one dimensional, lacks body language, facial expression, tone of voice, etc. Also unfortunate is the growing crop of folks who gleefully look to be insulted, to be a victim of sorts.

At any rate Don, I appreciate your comments. Peace and Love.

And deservedly so, after determining that you pocket slamming your “Fob” was the disinformation culprit. 😁

Why do people post AI responses without giving credit to the AI?

Why do people post AI responses without giving credit to the AI?
John, that’s an outstanding question! Therefore, I asked Google AI 🤣:

People use AI for forum posts without credit
because they want to appear knowledgeable, save time, get engagement, and often believe the content is "their own" (as AI generates new text), but also because AI content lacks human creativity/authorship, isn't copyrightable, and the focus is on the human's contribution (prompts, editing) rather than the tool itself, though some advocate for disclosure for transparency.

Reasons for Not Giving Credit:
  • Perceived Authorship: Users often see themselves as the authors because they provided the prompt and curated the output, treating the AI as a sophisticated tool, not a co-creator.
  • Time & Effort Saving: It's faster to generate a response with AI than to research and write it, making users reluctant to reveal the shortcut.
  • Status & Credibility: People want to seem intelligent, informed, and insightful; attributing posts to AI might diminish their perceived expertise.
  • Lack of Rules/Norms: Many forums lack clear policies on AI disclosure, and the culture hasn't fully settled on best practices.
  • Copyright & Ownership: Since AI-generated content isn't copyrightable in the U.S., users may feel no legal obligation to cite it as "original work," though it's based on others' data.

Why Credit Should Be Given (or Disclosure Made):
  • Transparency & Honesty: Disclosure builds trust, as users know the source and potential for AI inaccuracies (hallucinations).
  • Ethical Responsibility: It acknowledges the human effort (prompting) and the vast human-created data AI learned from, preventing misrepresentation.
  • Forum Integrity: Some users feel it violates forum rules against non-original content, as AI rephrases data from others without attribution.
  • Academic/Professional Standards: In serious contexts, failing to disclose AI use can be academic dishonesty or misrepresentation.
Ultimately, it's a mix of convenience, self-interest, and evolving norms, but transparency through methods like "AI Included Disclosure Acknowledgment (AIDA)" is gaining traction for authenticity.

I'll be the odd duck in this thread.

1.5 years ago I gave up my all-manual 2006 TJ. It was fine having to do everything, no complaints.

But I have now been completely spoiled by the 2024 JLU and have ordered every bell and whistle on my 2026 JL.

Good for you, with age comes (wisdom). I'm liking my heated steering wheel and heated seats during the cold spells. For those younger dudes that could care less.....................let them deal with what they have.
