I got my Jeep back. 11.5 solid weeks of no Jeep, no loaner, but finally have a new transmission! I'm not going to lie, I've already noticed a clunking sound when throwing it in reverse AND the RPMs stay around 3,000 for a while between 3rd and 4th gear. I can't help but feel this one will soon fail. I now have an attorney working on a lemon law case with me and Chrysler gave me a 3yr 100,000 mile warrant for the new trans.
I have a '20 and about 4mo ago it started clunking first reverse of the day. Then would clunk if it sat for a few hours. Now in addition to the clunk, I get a delayed 3/4 shift. RPMs hang as it tries to shift multiple times until it finally does. Then it's good for the rest of the day. Next day does it all over again. I only have 27K mi. :'(

I know there is a 5yr/60K warranty, but I'm not looking forward to the process that you just experienced! Maybe I'll just trade it in... pretty good deals on 4Xe right now.

This was my initial complaint. They told me it's normal.
When they eventually changed the valve body it fixed the clunking and rough gear shift into reverse! But not the 3rd-4th gear shift. The new trans is weird too between 3/4 gear. Maybe it's most of them that are plagued.

That is definitely weird. Mine doesn't do that. It does other weird things, not this one. Lol

That is a flare shift, not good or normal at all. Momentary interruption in power transmission from the engine to driveline.

That's terrible news. So sorry to read that. I hope you get out of this mess quickly. I would be so pissed.........

My own situation didn't change much in the last few days. The "clunk" going into reverse from park is still there, so I'm going into drive first... then reverse. It's a workaround. It "works".

As for the micro-surges and clunks while driving... maybe it's getting better. Then maybe not. I'm not sure. I'll see how it goes. Still thinking about trading it in at the end of the summer.
I've had the clunk going into reverse for almost all of my 40K miles. I think its worse and definitely never driven a vehicle that does this. It clunks the most in the morning on first shift. It may be time to dump it. It has never failed nor have I taken it to the dealer.

Depends on how long you have on the warranty I guess. I got a 2 years extension with the new transmission so I won't really care until somewhere in the middle of 26. Things are as they were a few months back. The transmission is holding up, but feels weird and has the clunk issue. But I just stopped giving a f*** at least for now.

If it fails again then they'll replace it... again. If it doesn't fail then I'll have to decide if I dump it or not in 2026. But with the prices of new Jeeps, I don't know. It's gonna be interesting but it's a "future me" problem.

Is the transmission covered for 5 year/60K miles?

Trading a clunk for burning down your house is probably a bad idea.

It should. I'm in Canada, it was covered for 5y and 100K kms. Mine ended in July.

I paid more attention to the noise that it makes. It's more of a click when shifting to reverse as opposed to a clunk. The loudest, most aggressive click is on the first shift to reverse in the morning. Having the e-torque, it downshifts clunky sometimes,, but I attribute that more to the engine than the transmission. I've always hated this noise, but not sure if it's because it's just a Jeep thing or not.
