Hello. I have a 2019 JLU auto, V6, 70K KM on the odo. Bought it used in 21, second owner.

I thought I felt some slipping mostly in 3rd, when shifting from 2nd... it "holds" the RPM like a CVT while still accelerating until it picks up and acts normally...

So I did some tests. I put the transmission in "manual" mode, holding RPMs between 1500-2000... then throttle up to let's say 60-70%... and it often slips going up to 4500 until it picks up. But not always. Like 10-20% of time maybe. Other times it just accelerate normally. I tried 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th... they all do the same. I'm not an automatic transmission expert, I used to drive stick and it's my 1st auto... but... that doesn't look normal at all!!!

It doesn't do it at higher RPMs.

And I don't think it was doing this before. It also feels clunky. TBH the whole transmission feels weird AF and I feel the Jeep drives like shit ATM.

I'm getting near the end of the 5y/100K warranty (I'm in Canada), I have 3 months left. I'll go to my dealer with this. But I wanted to be prepared...

So... Any opinion here? Not looking for a solution... more of a "yeah man this is not normal" or a "meh no all auto trans do this" (would be surprised though).

TIA

Have you thought about going to test drive a 2019 or 2020 to compare the drive?

Hide yours around the corner so they don't know you are fishing.

My 2018 didn't behave like that, and I came from a 2015 JK Manual, and all previous Wranglers I had were manual.

I could. I know someone who drives a 2020 JLUR... I may ask him.

But I'm pretty sure the trans is f-ed... or something else.

Congratulations, you have a bad transmission.
?

I just hope it isn't going to be a fight to have it done under warranty. This will not be cheap.

Eh, should be pretty straightforward. If it is under warranty, it gets replaced. Have you been off road recently? If so, clean the crap out of it and make sure there is zero trail damage.

Last off road trip was last fall... and then it was winter (I live in Quebec). There are multiple scratches under the Jeep. I have a winch. It's been off road. Everybody knows. Not crazy off road, but off road. My dealer doesn't really care about it and they have always been ok with repairs... so far. Last August they did my rear main seal (it was leaking), and they had to drop the trans for that. It started after... I have driven the Jeep for about 2000 KM since. Maybe they did something wrong... Or maybe it isn't related.

Transmissions are on backorder, pretty heavy backorder. Good luck.

Hmm ok. And how would you know that?

I contacted my dealer and they can't take me in until May 6. The service guy didn't seem too worried and said it's very rare they replace ZF transmissions. So far that dealer, and that guy specifically, have been good to me and I never had to fight to get things fixed. He said that it may just need to be "recalibrated" (i.e. put in "relearn mode"). Not sure I agree.

That being said, I've been having issues with the can bus connector that is located behind the glove box this winter and I need to replace that connector this weekend. I've had check engine lights, ABS, SERV 4WD, traction control, etc. When I checked the codes it's all about brakes, master cylinder, incoherent signals, etc. I just give the cables behind the glove box a good "shake" and everything goes back to normal. I have never seen any codes related to the transmission. But... could it be because of the can bus and some inconsistent signals? I don't have any lights ATM but I had them intermittently for the last 4-5 months.

I'll know for sure when I replace that damn connector...

I do this for a living.

They are correct, replacement is very rare, and they actually have no idea how to fix them either. They will send you through the corporate shit show of software update, valve body replacement, then backorder a trans.

You might get lucky and get a valve body to fix it but I would bet money against you, sorry.

Yeah, looks bad...

What would you do knowing what you know, 3 months from the end of the 5 year warranty? Trade it in?
