While I won't argue that there aren't sometimes first year issues that need to be addressed, there are also cost saves that get implemented the second year...These are the various reasons why it's a reasonable idea to skip the first model year of any new car.
Actually fixes and cost saves don't always follow model years so I don't give too much thought to it either way.
