Thanks for the insight into the process. Yeah sounds slow but worth it for the free money

Almost the full amount. I maxed out the card once, then the next day xferred funds to pay it off. The bank waited 1 week to make sure the funds cleared. When I picked up the jeep, they held a check for the rest of the payment until I could charge the rest. I don't know if all dealers will do that, but small town Iowa will. It took a week and a day before I could max the card again. Then, even though I got the card in early April, it took until late May for the first statement to get the rewards.

To use the rewards, the dealer calls the card rewards department with the amount to use. The rewards people apply that amount to a one time use credit card number and the dealer uses that number to get payment. It's a slow process, but they seemed familiar with it.

You charge $5K on a CC and get 2% cash back Lol and call it free money Lol. You paid for it. No free money no free money.

They are laughing at you.

For every 1K you put as a down payment is only 27-30 off your monthly bill another waste of cash.
If you can't afford don't buy.

You are 100% incorrect.

I put $1,000 down on my credit card.

Credit card issues a 2% cash back on the $1,000 - so I get $20.

One month later I pay $980 to the credit card company, since I applied the $20 I received.

^ That right there, IS FREE MONEY.

multiply that by 5 and you got yourself $100 bucks, for FREE

Well, I've been using my CC for little over 10 years and never paid interest, once... I've also learned over the years that you can't argue with stupid. Enjoy your cash-only life.

I bought my son's '15 Wrangler with 5k down on a Citi rewards card, which I then paid off in full when the bill came in the following month, and the points gave me money to spend on Amazon-since they partner with Citi. So in essence I got items I usually buy for free just for charging my down payment.

I agree that there are a lot of people who must/do carry a balance, and I carry one to purchase things I may not "want" or "be able to" otherwise. I do utilize 0% financing on things like the computer I'm typing on, which made the sting of buying a 2500 dollar computer more palatable, I must say. Cash is King. I don't want to empty my bank account of liquid assets. I'd rather put a small deposit down and finance it-maybe that's not the right way to do it but I've not had a car payment in 8 years having paid cash for my '10 Wrangler so I guess I'll find out soon enough?! I don't regret paying cash for it, but jeez they were nearly 20k less back then!

This is a great discussion as I just signed up for the FCA card. So how long does it take to get the reward points to apply to the vehicle purchase? Looking at putting 10K on the card, and if I do the math right, I would get 10% or $1000 back to use on my Jeep purchase.

To smithrd65, I am not sure if you are getting it. Let's say I have $100K in the bank. I put $10K on my credit card, get the $1k in bonus points towards my purchase and pay off the $10K right away with my money. I have just earned $1k towards my Jeep purchase that I otherwise would not have had. I have paid NO interest in this scenario as I just paid it off. I have had a credit card for 15 years and never paid interest because I PAY IT OFF EVERY MONTH!

Points are rewarded at the end of the month when the statement is processed. My first statement took about 7 weeks.

Following up with the latest on my FCA rewards. After spending $1200 of my rewards on Wrangler accessories, (cover, window case, side steps, floor mats, cargo cover, filler door and misc.) the remaining $1800 was applied towards the purchase of a new Cherokee. The dealer with the Cherokee has a policy of limiting credit cards to $3000, but they did bump that to $10,000, so I'll have another $1000 in rewards when that goes through.

A mom Van, researching our next Wrangler
I tried this with my last jeep, at the time they were offering 3% back on all dealership purchases.
I tried to pay for the entire jeep with the CC. The sales manager told me it wasnt possible and anything over $500 they would have to mark up 2.5% because thats what they are charged to process CCs.
I told him, I wouls need to find another dealer. He knocked off $800 and told me that left him with less than $300 profit.
I said thank you.
When I came back a year later to purchase a van, at closing I got out the CC, he disnt find the joke as funny as I did.

I got this card and used it to put 12k down payment on my new JL Turbo. My dealer took the card and hardly flinched. I'm waiting for my statement to cycle in order to see my rewards. I should have $600 in rewards which translates to $1200 at the dealer. I plan to have them install the lift kit. I'm nervous about redeeming the rewards....will they play dumb?

If they haven't processed the rewards before, they may not know what to do. The cashiers at my dealer knew what to do and eventually so did the parts guy and the finance guy. Ask ahead of time if they know how to process the rewards.
