In September 2022 I placed an order for a set of wheels that were on backorder. It's a new wheel design that was just introduced, so I expected a delay until product was available. At the time of order, they stated a 60 day backorder. After that expired, I called to check on the status. I was then told another 3 or 4 weeks. After that expired, I was told the first week of Jan. After that expired, I called yesterday and was told another 2 weeks. What I find frustrating is the exact wheel I ordered shows as "in stock" on their website and can ship next week, but when I had been checking on it over the last few months it showed backorder. When I asked why it shows in stock on their website and my order hasn't shipped, they said there's a glitch with their system and the wheels aren't actually in stock. WTF? I call BS on that. Many other online retailers show the exact wheel in stock but I'm hesitant to cancel my existing order with Custom Offsets and place another order only to be told it's not actually "in stock" and will be a couple weeks and then get the same run around... Has anyone gone through this runaround before with Custom Offsets or another retailer?

I had similar problems with my first order from them. The red Method 305NV, unfortunately is an exclusive through them. I made lots of calls to them to find status and got lame answers, excuses, and forgotten call backs.

Second Jeep, same wheels, I ordered early because the Jeep wasn’t yet built. This time the wheels showed up quick and sat in my garage for months…

Had anodizing peel off on one of the new ones about a year later. Call them to do a warranty claim to replace It. The start the process then back to scenario 1. Of course they start ghosting me after I had paid for and received the replacement wheel and shipped the old wheel.

I found a customer support number for Method and spoke to someone higher up. Because the wheels are an exclusive for Custom Offsets the return has to be handled by them. BUT he emailed them with my info and got the ball rolling..

I 100% would have cancelled my order if I could have gotten my wheels elsewhere. Even if it took longer I wouldn’t have to deal with them again.

That company seems to be run by a bunch of dumbass trust fund kids more focused on drinking, cow tipping, and getting cheesed on than taking care of their customers and running a business.

A respectable company with wheels in stock can get them to you inside 2 weeks. I’d expect you would have them installed before the first clowns have your refund processed.

I agree with the post above, cancel your order and go with a company run by adults. Custom Offsets and Trailbuilt are run by shitty Insta-bros in snapbacks and Tap-out gear.

Have you gone back to their website periodically and checked the "in stock" or "backorder" status of the wheels you ordered?

honestly, just chargeback with your credit card company and let them deal with it. Or you can email them asking them for a refund, but then you gotta wait for them to actually respond

It's interesting that you mentioned the Method 305NV in red. The wheels I ordered are (were) a Christmas gift to my girlfriend who currently has a set of those Method 305NV wheels on her Jeep and have had similar issues with the red finish peeling. It took almost a month to get Custom Offsets to warranty the first wheel after it started peeling about 6 months of service on the Jeep. Same deal. She had to buy a brand new wheel and return the defective one and wait for them to inspect and approve the warranty claim and reimburse her for the replacement wheel she bought.

My girlfriend's Jeep is her daily driver and doesn't get much off road use, but she has been off road with it 3 times I believe. There were no nicks, scratches, blemishes or any damage where the finish was peeling. Additionally, it appears the aluminum below the peeling was very smooth and it almost reminded me of an as-machined (or polished) surface, which it likely is. However, I would have expected a slightly rougher surface so the red tinted clear coat would adhere better. I wonder if their surface prep was poor?

It was also apparent to me that the design of the wheel and the fact that rain water collected in the low spot near the simulated bead lock on the wheel that was in the spare location on the back of the tailgate. That explains why only one wheel exhibited the peeling issue at a time. Because the rotation of the other four would expel the water. There are now two more of her wheels that need replaced due to this issue. I believe it is partly because of the water laying on the finish in the spare tire. I rotate the tires roughly 5-6k miles and her Jeep gets washed regularly. When I get home from work later today I'll post a picture that illustrates that condition.

The new wheel design I ordered has small cutouts near the simulated beadlock which act like drain holes to eliminate the water laying in that area while the one wheel is mounted in the spare location.

Any recommendations on a reputable company to order the wheels from? I found them at CarID for a good price (within a few bucks of my original order) and I was told they have them in stock. Not sure what to believe anymore though unless someone can send me a picture of them from a warehouse.

My theory about Custom Offsets is this. When I ordered these new set of wheels (Sept 2022) the price was a little over $40 less per wheel than what they have them listed for today (Jan 13 2023). I suspect that they don't want to fulfill my order (paid in full in Sept 2022) and lose over $200 on the set of 5 wheels I ordered. They will probably give me the runaround until I can't stand it anymore. That explains that why each time I call (anonymously) and ask about the availability of this wheel, the rep says, sure we have them in stock and ready to ship, but as soon as I mention that I have them back ordered since Sept 2022, so please go ahead and ship them to me to fulfill my order, they reply, whoops we don't actually have them in stock. Must be a computer system glitch. Their response then is that they will investigate further and I get a call saying that they are still unavailable.

I'm about to lose my shit with Custom Offsets.

Why not call the other companies who say they have them in stock and check if they do actually? If they do just order there and cancel the order with Custom Offsets.

I got those too. I mean look at the product listing and see if you can add them to your cart? When I do this for the wheels I ordered (back ordered) it says they will ship in a couple days.

I have called others already and have been told they are in stock, but the new price would have me shelling out an additional $200 compared to my existing order at Custom Offsets. The one company who got really close (with a MIL/LE discount) was CarID. I've never ordered from them so I'm hesitant.

Gotcha. CarID has been around for sometime and from my experience is a good company. I have ordered some Rhino Rack accessories from them in the past. Sounds like you just have to decide if you wanna wait or pony up more cash and be done with it.

That's good to hear about CarID. Thanks for sharing that.

The other complicating factor to this whole situation is the warranty on the Method wheels runs out in Feb 2023, so I'd like to get the new ones installed and then have Custom Offsets replace the defective Method wheels before we offer them for sale locally. I don't want to sell a wheel that has existing peeling finish on it.
