Hello all

New here , I have a 2019 JL with a 8.4 uconnect with the alpine speakers , I understand about the amp and sub operation and understand it runs at 2 ohm on the speakers . Looking to change the small Alpine speakers in the sound bar to 6.5‘s. I’ve had great luck with the old Memphis component speaker systems . They have a new ViV series that are 2 ohm 6.5 , little pricey but they seem to be decent by what ive read.

So my question has anyone added a 2 ohm 6.5 and improved the sound output with the factory amp ,since I don’t want to get into changing the amp just looking to get a little more volume out of the system I have.
Sorry if this has been asked, did search but didn’t find this question

Thanks all

For an easy upgrade, swap the stock upper dash and sound bar 3.5" and 4" units for better of the same size. Leave the knee speakers alone. Add poly fill behind the new speakers. Simple mods. Cranks to max just fine. And at least on my truck the sound bar speakers are only for filler anyhow, most of the noticeable volume is up front.

In fact, maybe even leave the 4" speakers alone. Try just the 3.5" speakers in the dash and the sound bar. Gets rid of the speaker-in-a-box sound and goes to max volume. And the 4" are not too bad as they are. I know the stock knee speakers seem to handle max volume (so far), although I don't crank it up that high ever.

Mostly I wish there were a separate control for the subwoofer gain.

What speakers did you choose to swap in the soundbar?

I swapped out the dash speakers with 3.5” Infinity reference. And the sound bar with 6.5” component Infinity reference. I used the JL/JT pods in the sound bar so I didn’t have to cut anything but the pods for the tweeters.

Was the sound improved ,? I’m looking for just little louder out if the rear but I don’t want to mess with changing the amp or just deleting it and adding a different sub

I did the exact same thing. I'll be upgrading the knee speakers with the Infinity coax speakers once I have a full day to take the dash apart. Sounds much better. Not so much volume but the sound quality and clarity is much better, especially with roof off or all the windows open.

Yes. It’s louder and the range and clarity have greatly improved. I installed the new speakers one side at a time so I could do a direct comparison with “upgraded” Alpine. The Alpine sounds like it’s coming through a tunnel compared to the Infinity. Plus you don’t have to use the crossovers from Infinity (included in the box) or add any amplifier. If the pods like I did you don’t have to cut anything either.

That great thank you , the lower dash speakers in the pods did you change those also?

Not yet. I do plan to change them out eventually to 6.5” two way Infinity reference of course. I just haven’t had time to tear the dash apart.

Which wire did you hook up to the 6.5, the one from the 4inch speaker? and the tweeter?

The 4” has a larger plug than the 3.5”. So the 6.5” replaces the 4”. And the tweeter replaces the 3.5”.

The Infinity components come with a cross-over. If you have the “upgraded “ Alpine system (bigger screen), the system already has cross-overs built in. So you don’t need to use the Infinity cross-overs. Just a simple plug and play.

Are the speakers in the sound bar fairly easy to change out?
