Saw the only Bronco I'd trade my Rubicon XR for in a parking garage last night.

All joking and BSing aside, here’s where I come down on the Bronco: It seems plenty capable off-road. Few Jeep owners would need more raw ability. It’s also good-looking in person and does a nice job mixing retro and modern. I get the appeal.

However, the IFS will never be as nice as a disconnected SFA on slower and more technical terrain. The body will go up and down and side to side far more. The e-disco doesn’t look like it does very much. A disconnected Jeep’s ability float over bad terrain is magic. I also worry about the durability of the SFA, as illustrated by some early failures. And that soft top is so bad with its wrinkled-up windows.

So, I get the appeal. Seems capable. Not a Jeep killer though.

Bottom line. I ordered a Badlands Bronco on July 16, 2 days after they were announced. I’m still waiting for it. Ford keeps sending chotzie little trinkets telling me to be patient. In the meantime I order a 21 XR Rubicon on October 1st. It is being transported this week and I will pick it up at the dealership. Guess I’m a Jeep guy.
I wanted a Bronco until I test drove one and saw some people posting online about problems they were having. It’s a first year vehicle. I knew it was bound to have problems but it seems like Ford has really botched things. I went into Ford dealerships multiple times just to see if they had a demo model that I could try. I finally decided to order one but when I went in to order and asked how long it would be I was expecting them to say something like 6 months. They told me if I got on the waiting list it would be 2 years. Without hesitating I turned to my wife and said, “well, it looks like we’re getting a Wrangler”. I eventually did get to test drive one and I’m glad I went ahead and ordered a Wrangler. The Bronco I tested just didn’t impress me.

There'll be rock crawlers and mall crawlers for both sides. I'm in the jeep camp right now and my first one paid for on my own was a 91 XJ with no AC and a manual. I'm completely on board with the Jeep and Bronco competing for our wallets. This makes each better. I still have an early reservation and order in for a Bronco that never arrived and that pushed me back to my current Jeep.

I have a few points I would like to make with you because there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding.
#1 I don’t answer to you. If you want to see comparison videos go look them up yourself. When you claimed the Bronco was capable and earned its great reputation I didn’t demand you prove it with video evidence. I just stated that it hasn’t earned anything.
#2 I never said anything about crawl comparisons. I mentioned several problems that people have had. None of which had anything to do with crawl comparisons.
If you like Broncos and find nothing wrong with them then I hope you get one and enjoy it. I’ve said this several times but I’ll say it again. So far they just haven’t impressed me.
I have looked. All I see is the Bronco keeping up or making it look easier than the JL(this could simply be different line or driver).
I asked because a number of people here continually spout how the Bronco won’t keep up but offer no proof. If they have seen the so called proof I would love to see it.

I honestly thought the Bronco would be a click behind in climbing. Yet I can’t find anything to back this up.

Fair enough. I hope you enjoy your Bronco. See you on the trails. Cheers. ?

I never said it wouldn’t keep up. I just said it didn’t impress me. I’ve seen some videos where they compared a Bronco Badlands to a Wrangler Sport and then pointed out that the Bronco went right over an obstacle while the Wrangler scrubbed a little. That’s a bit dishonest if you ask me. I’ve also seen videos where the Bronco was throwing errors and they seemed not to notice. At any rate, I was very interested in the Bronco but so far I don’t think Ford has delivered the Wrangler killer so many people that they had. Maybe they’ll work out the kinks in a few years and I’ll take another look at them.

Exploder same motor/tranny setup as the Bronco. Ford botched the design with the cooler and the cluches burn up fast and fail causing damage to other parts.
I hope they put in revised "cooler" for the trans. Suprised they used external reserve tank as a cooler. My 14 Explorer 3.5 turbo uses two layer radiator with part of the front radiator dedicated to trans cooling.

Also ovresised intercooler independent of radiator (1/4 of which was covered with a sticker to prevent too much cooling /condensation...I removed it and making sure I drive it hard to not let co condensation to accumulate).
Tuned and drive it hard and at 70k, no issues.

The wife says to me the other day, “I’d like to look at the new Broncos, I think they’re cute”. Of course being the man of the house, I said “ this is the only Bronco I’d consider having around here.”

Funny, my wife also thought the same as far as the cuteness of this latest rendition. She also went on to suspect that there must've been some women on the design team, which is why "it has a bubbly look about it, lower and easier to reach grab handles, and easier to use buttons instead of levers." I had a chuckle and a shrug in response. But not too big of a chuckle, seeing as how I don't have a garage as a backup. ?
