Second trip with the snorkel installed, I get the P04DB code. No visible issues with the crankcase vent hose and the timing of the code seems much more likely airflow related. Folks have reported this code after air filters weren’t reinstalled, which yields increased pressure in the CCV system. My best guess is the ram air effect of the snorkel is increasing intake pressure enough to trip the code. AEV has not yet responded to my call about it. The engine otherwise seems to be running fine but I have no idea if this will effect performance/longevity long term. Maybe just turn the intake cap around to decrease the ram air effect?

So, i installed a AFE Cold Air Intake. 50 miles CEL.
Called, emailed.......blah blah (to much air, creating vortex, what ever).
Saw a youtube video. guy had the same issue. Cut his stock air box and used the OEM vent valve,
Boom no CEL.
Im reinstalling my CAI this weekend.

So I spoke too soon. Code came in today on the way back to work. Dammit lol. So if I’m reading all of these posts correctly, my options are turn the snorkel inlet around, ditch the k&n filter or run that mushroom deally? Lucky for me the Banks iDash can clear codes on the fly lol.

You could just drill a few holes on the rear of the snorkel head to let some of the entering air out and diminish ram pressure.

I did this with my Rugged ridge snorkel head because I was worried the front would get packed on the highway in heavy wet snow. With a few holes out back, at least it will stil breathe

i 'get' the pressure-relief theory, but why not just turn it around in those snowy conditions?
(was that Rugged Ridge snorkel on a Diesel?)

seems like it might make sense to have it facing backward during heavy weather season, and run it forward-facing during warmer/dryer weather.

No mine’s not a diesel. Actually when it snows, it snows. Winds sometimes get stronger than the speed you can go in the city and on rural roads. Believe me, having air come-in from all sides is a huge plus.

Yeah, it sounded cool for about 5 mins. Now it’s just getting annoying lol. Am I ever glad I tossed the stock filter when I got the k&n ?. I haven’t been able to find an aftermarket one and no dealer near me has the mopar one. Go figure lol

Has anyone confirmed that the OEM air filter restricts enough of the intake flow to prevent the code?

i haven't got any cel from my AFE setup (only modified the rubber flap with a piece of wire to hold it open like everyone else) 20K miles at least

I wouldn’t call the two miles on the highway that tripped my CEL “prolonged”, but nice to see Jeep stepping up to the plate with an answer. I’m fairly certain the low pressure behind my reversed ram air cut a solid 1.5mpg off my average.

I now have 6 drive cycles with the oem filter and no cel. 4 of those are about 100km each. Fingers crossed that’s fixed it. I marginally lost mileage, went from 9.5 L/100 to 9.8 averaging 80-100 kph. I’d have to wait for the tsb, there’s a recall out for the DEF system I think and there is one for the injection pump but they don’t have parts. I need to get all the pcm flashing out of the way at the same time, then drive back over to Michigan to GDE to have it re-tuned.

i should have just glued some foam filter media on the bottom of the k&n, wouldn’t have been much different

i've been following this, and hoping to see you (and everyone else) get this resolved. i think you might be on to something here, but are better off in any case without the K&N.

i was an enthusiastic fan of the idea of the K&N once-upon-a-time, and rigidly followed the cleaning/oiling maintenance guidelines for the alleged benefits. but i ditched them when the Silica levels in my Used Oil Analyisis went way up with the use of the K&N; seems the lower air restriction they provide comes as the result of poorer filtration.

i'd think the odds good that that K&N caused a change in airflow putting something outside the expected parameters in our sensitive EcoDiesels.
fingers crossed for you that it's that simple!

Still rolling without a return of the CEL. Looks like the oem filter is the way.
