Going from a Maxima to a Wrangler as a daily driver without even test driving one will be interesting.

Adding the lift cost reduces difference, beadlock capable wheels? if not further reduction, water diverting hood and 392 specific items NA- value? My 21 392 $77,620, comparably equipped diesel just under $69K not including lift etc. The 392 is not itself an unreasonably priced option.

We have already test driven a 4xe (since there were no 392's available for test drive) and spent about 100 miles behind the wheel of my brother-in-law's JKU. Both of those vehicles mannerisms, and interior comforts were fine. We also thought the steering was no where near as vague as some have mentioned. It is the unrefined qualities of the Wrangler that we feel will make the power of the 392 XR that much more fun to drive. We have a 4xe Rubicon reserved for mid-September for about a 700 mile, 3-day out of state trip just to see how it is on interstate.

That being said, I would have no fear of purchasing a 392 XR without test driving. I am that confident in it's resale value ?

ONLY?? 392 drivetrain is basically only ~$16K premium!! I doubt the cost for a (existing motor in the line up) V8 engine and accessories cost additional $16k
It was the best 16k I have ever spent. Considering a swap (we had a 07 Rubicon) was going to be around 30k, buying the 392 with all the bells and whistles and warranty made it a no brainer.

First jeep I ever sat inside of was my 4xe rubicon.

I honestly hated in the first day, which was the drive home from the dealership for about 120miles.

now I’m 2200 miles on the odometer and I love it.

I just sprayed the living shit out of the interior with a hose. While I was spraying it, I was just thinking about how amazing it was to hose down my car interior.

Between the doors off, off-roading, top off, hosing down the interior….I’m starting to understand the jeep cult following.

It’s also the only way to have a nice car, but at the same time just not give a fuck about it. Usually I’m kinda anal about them cosmetically. My 2014 pickup has less cosmetic damage than my jeep.

Interesting Wrangler build walkthrough showing the actual cost premium needed to upgrade from the 3.6L to the 6.4L, with the same options on both vehicles. I understand that the 392 only comes in the Rubicon, which forces some buyers to get options they may not want or need. However, for someone wanting a fully loaded Rubicon, plans to keep it stock, wants the V8 power, performance and awesome dual-mode exhaust, the cost of the 392 drivetrain is basically only ~$16K premium!! Especially for the 7-10% below MSRP deals that can be had with customer ordering.

? ?

Don't know where this math comes from....optioned out the same for me yields a $25k difference.

Didn't you say the 4xe jerky and quirky, and felt like a golf cart?

Seems you are trying to diss the 4xe by making up stuff.

Strange you would rent one based on what you claimed.

You keep throwing around resale value all the time, as if you are trying to convince yourself of something.

there you go, twisting things again. My past comments were referring to the 4xe hybrid drivetrain being quirky/jerky ?, not the suspension or interior comfort. It was my wife’s comment that it felt like a golf cart?.

Not making up anything, only my personal observations, of which you are clearly too sensitive. I have already apologized if your feelings were hurt, that was not my intention.

nothing strange about renting a 4xe for the info we need. We are wanting to see what the hardtop JLUR is like on long highway stints, which can be achieved with any of the drivetrain choices. The 4xe on Turo was actually one of the cheaper ones to rent as well? Also, as we are not sure what drive mode the 4xe was in during our short test drive, we wanted to give it another chance ā€œnotā€ to drive like a golf cart?✌

Buying vehicles is rarely an investment, but resale is always part of the equation, unless you flat out don’t care about money. Sorry, I’m not that rich or stupid with my money.

Sorry that is not correct. You can on other Rubicons with a Taser. But 392 is the only one that does it factory..
I’m pretty sure you’re not correct.

starting on the ā€˜21 model year, all rubicons have an off-road+ button next to the locker swtiches, being in this mode allows rear locker engagement in 4hi. This is available on all rubicons except the 4xe, which does not have the off-road plus button.

Here is one of many threads discussing it

They also said 2.5ā€ lift over a Rubicon (I believe that is incorrect?), Oh well, ā€œexpertā€ car writers often make mistakes. Still supports the fact that the price includes more than a V8 when comparing. No I didn’t know the 4XE got most of the upgrades, only interested in the diesel or 392. ?
