Is it the dealers who have configured their early deliveries of JLs, or is the factory that decides what to build and what they'll send to the dealers?

It makes no sense to me, whatsoever, the number of $50k vehicles they've made that are missing relatively inexpensive options.

50k and it's missing proximity entry? (just as an example)

I, for one, will NOT purchase a vehicle for 50k that doesn't have the options I want--no matter how tempting it may be when an otherwise excellent vehicle is sitting on the lot. But I suppose someone else out there will spend his/her hard-earned money and do without proximity entry--and save a whopping $500.

Seriously, how frickin' dumb!

All three Rubicons my local dealer has received to sale have been 56kish and fully loaded. None have lasted over a week on the lot

If memory serves me right, I believe I read somewhere on here that FCA put out a memo to dealers prior to launch, suggesting a balance of certain packages in initial orders.

What was dumb (imo) was that Florida dealers followed it and ended up with cold weather packages with heated seats, steering wheel and an engine block heater. That was certainly a package I skipped when ordering my JLUR.

Things may have changed as they see what people want or are asking for, one would assume, but maybe that's giving the person doing allocation ordering too much credit.

I just did a search in your neck of the woods. I'm looking for a 6-speed manual rubicon.
There is exactly ONE in your area. MSRP: $51930. Proximity entry: NOPE.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this. I've checked from time to time as my order is dragging on. I do not regret ordering one bit, Whats really strange are the ones who order the Alpine package, but not infotainment. It's literally the same cost, but Infotainment has a lot more in it, like a larger screen. While that may not be your thing, do remember, there's almost no cost difference, so why even get that?

The next is the ones that do not have the safety package. While there has been some complaining about the addition to the back corner, it's a lot different when driving, and is honestly a great safety feature, I can only imagine in the not to distant future those will be mandatory.

While cold weather makes little sense as a package in Florida, it does elsewhere and I'm shocked that a place that has in the 10's each year for weather doesn't order it.

I'm ending my rant, I'm glad people mentioned it, just seemed rather odd.

This is why many of us order. What I seem to find whenever I look is exactly what you are talking about. I know my dealer orders based off of past sales and what they think people want the most. Even looking at this forum I can see they are not far off for the masses. Most people want that Infotainment Option and Leather Seats Option which is about $3K. I personally feel this is very expensive for what is being offered and I can take that $3K and put it to options that are much more useful. If the dealer does not add those two options I find they go to the other end of the spectrum and only add Automatic and Hard Top making it cheap but with ZERO real options.

I myself went with options I felt were useful and either priced appropriately or would not be able to be added later easily.

Sahara Punk'n Orange
Automatic
Limited Slip Diff
Trailer Tow Elect group
Safety Group
LED Lighting
Proximity Entry
Premium Soft Top

Price before TTL $40,426.00

I plan to go with custom Katzkin leather seats as it will not cost much more and will look much nicer. As for speakers the JK stock system works fine for me and if I feel I need to upgrade it, I would rather go custom here as well for the money they are charging for the option.

Which dealer was this? There's three within thirty miles of me

I hear you but I think there's a very specific type of person who walks into and out of a dealership on the same day with a $50k+ vehicle that isn't to their absolute specification. Like you, I'd personally want everything to my exact liking and I'm alright with waiting 2-3 months for a custom order.

Is the average consumer that way? I wouldn't bet my money on it.

Yes and you see it here from time to time on the forum. Members that either did not know about an option, or knew but wanted it now and are trying to figure out how they can add that option after the fact. Sometimes people would like an option but are OK to forgo it in order to have the Jeep now. Some just impulsive buys.

I specifically wanted cold weather group and I live in FL.

I wheeled my last JKU fully naked in the middle of winter here dozens of times. Many days would start off in the 50s and end up in the 60s or 70s. Heated seats and steering wheel were a HUGE plus for me and something that I put on my list as a must have.

Plus you have to figure, in a convertible vehicle with little insulation, many central and northern Floridians will be thankful for that option from Nov-March.

I find it annoying just how few MT wranglers they order. I guess they figure most people wanting that will just custom order?

My local dealership has received one manual JL out of all their dealer orders. And I test drove it!

i agree with OP . Initial rubys on local lot lacked cold weather group with leather seats. that just seemed stupid to me and he even tried to strike a deal with me i was like hell naw... i aint putting shwag aftermarket heated seats in a new 50k rubi especially since the interface with connect is very good.

Be happy most people want the Automatic. If most people wanted the Manual they would charge you 2K for a manual. Same as sports cars. Go configure a sports car and the Automatic is standard and an upcharge for the manual as most buying a true sports car want the manual.
