Be happy most people want the Automatic. If most people wanted the Manual they would charge you 2K for a manual. Same as sports cars. Go configure a sports car and the Automatic is standard and an upcharge for the manual as most buying a true sports car want the manual.
You got one single example to back up that pricing claim? Lol. I know of same price examples myself, but not more expensive manual. Manufacturers like keeping manuals around as a low-take rate option, as it lets them flaunt a low starting msrp that applies to nearly nobody.

Nowhere did I say they should order more manuals than autos.. I just find 1 in 50 dealer orders makes it tricky.

I did not state that you felt they should order more manuals. No need to try and read into things.

I have not looked in a few years and it appears you are right. They have made changes. When I was looking not too long ago I was seeing sports cars that were charging for Manual transmissions and not automatics which had pissed me off. I knew this was simply because most in the market would want the standard so companies were actually charging more for it.

I have not gone sport car shopping in a while and looking now it looks like they have reversed course on this thought process. Not too long ago however this was the case.

The next is the ones that do not have the safety package. While there has been some complaining about the addition to the back corner, it's a lot different when driving, and is honestly a great safety feature, I can only imagine in the not to distant future those will be mandatory.
I donno, I was one of the ones that specifically did NOT want the 'safety package' - I hate them in general (they aren't super accurate, they beep / flash a lot when people pass on multi-lane, and you have zero intent of moving into that lane in the first place). I agree they can be helpful for some - but I don't want it. I don't need the distraction, and I pay plenty of attention when driving.

also don't want the big clunky black box hanging off my tail light.

If they want to implement a safety feature to save lives - implement something that prevents a vehicle from going over 90mph. I can't think of very many reasons for a non-LEO/non-rescue person in normal driving to have to go over 80mph. So give it 10mph more and call it good.

FWIW - I'm against that too; I think driving comes with a certain amount of personal responsibility (similar to raising kids, or anything else in the world) but I do use it as an example to highlight there are much better safety features out there. At some point people should "buck up" and pay attention when driving (put down the cell phone and cheeseburger) to what's around them. But with more and more safety "features" people get a bit lazy - I mean there's a commercial out now with a guy drinking a bottle of water while his Cadillac drives itself down the highway. Stupid.

sort of like sending kids to public schools and parents expecting them to teach their children everything from social interaction to morality; if you aren't involved, no grounds for complaints.

/ramble off

so - I guess I'm one of the few that would have bought a Jeep off a lot without the Safety package - if I could have found a Rubicon with cloth seats (90% have leather), tow group and LED lights, and in Ocean Blue.

ordering is way way better.

If memory serves me right, I believe I read somewhere on here that FCA put out a memo to dealers prior to launch, suggesting a balance of certain packages in initial orders.

What was dumb (imo) was that Florida dealers followed it and ended up with cold weather packages with heated seats, steering wheel and an engine block heater. That was certainly a package I skipped when ordering my JLUR.

Things may have changed as they see what people want or are asking for, one would assume, but maybe that's giving the person doing allocation ordering too much credit.
WE ordered a JLUR with cold weather package because it gets darned cold here in Ocala in Jan & Feb, as well as the mountains of Colorado in the summer. We didn't want to wait until June of July for delivery so we bought one off the lot. The only option it didn't have was the cold weather package.

I didn't order the Safety Package or Cold Weather Group, seemed like a waste of money for something I'd never use. My parent's van has these options so I have some experience with them, so it helped me make my decision.

It really wasn't, but sure, whatever haha. If you can't even recall an example from your, uh, sports car shopping days of previous years, they probably didn't exist. It would've been a lot more reasonable to say "look, I made that last part up and I admit it now".

I write this from a lovely picnic table overlooking the salt lake valley.

My dealer is on the opposite end of the spectrum. They know that few people are actually going to pay $55k for a Jeep, so everything on their lot is a Sport model. Most have the S package so it's got power windows and A/C, and a few have the tech package and hard top. There is one Sahara and one Rubicon, but every other JL is a Sport with a sticker of under $40k because that's their best shot at selling Jeeps. I've been to 3 dealerships and they'll all got JLs and JKs just sitting around. People are getting sticker shock.

I’m old enough to remember when a 3 speed manual on the column was standard and an automatic or 4 on the floor were options lol!

I like your dealer. Mine virtually won't stock any sofftops. And certainly no base models. I think JL price might prove risky. My dealer also has JLs not selling and people fighting over the cheaper JKs. That can happen when you raise base model price $3750 in one year, and even more for fully loaded models. There's only so many rich cucks who don't care. The wrangler needs middle class people to buy them as well to survive.

Maybe summer rebates will be a thing.

I just did a search in your neck of the woods. I'm looking for a 6-speed manual rubicon.
There is exactly ONE in your area. MSRP: $51930. Proximity entry: NOPE.
I was looking for a 6 Speed Rubi with cloth interior. It did not exist in Michigan anywhere. I ordered mine , Considering spending over 50K i wanted to get exactly the way I wanted for the price. Only found one close in the entire 60 days I waited for the order to come in.

Options are not a bargain unless they bring value to YOU. I have no need for proximity entry. I can use a key or push a button.
It comes with a backup camera and mirrors, and I have a functioning neck, so safety package added no value either.

I really don't care what you believe. I came back to say I was wrong as I have not looked in a while and then you reply to simply call me a liar. Whatever...

Is it the dealers who have configured their early deliveries of JLs, or is the factory that decides what to build and what they'll send to the dealers?

It makes no sense to me, whatsoever, the number of $50k vehicles they've made that are missing relatively inexpensive options.

50k and it's missing proximity entry? (just as an example)

I, for one, will NOT purchase a vehicle for 50k that doesn't have the options I want--no matter how tempting it may be when an otherwise excellent vehicle is sitting on the lot. But I suppose someone else out there will spend his/her hard-earned money and do without proximity entry--and save a whopping $500.

Seriously, how frickin' dumb!
maybe you should look into buying a honda then lol no real jeeper gives a rats ass about proximity sensors lmao what else did you bitch about ... no air conditioned cup holders lmao what a tool

This is why I put in a custom order for mine with the options that I wanted. The down side is that you'll have to wait about 6-9 weeks for them to come in. Pretty long wait time.

I ordered a semi-bare bones Rubicon. Only options I took was the LED and Towing packages as well as the premium soft top. Came out to a grand total of about $44k for my Rubicon, that's cheaper than half of the Sport S models my dealer is selling...

We looked at some JLs in Phoenix this winter. In addition to packing the options, they added three mandatory dealer installed "options". Can you spell profit. They were a "special" desert paint protection package, dark tinted windows and additional super secret anti theft stuff. Asked if I could order a Rubicon without their add on options. I was told no under any circumstances. Just wait about 5 model years and you'll be looking at $70K window stickers.
