I recently bought a storage container for the Jeep:

Yeah, I know. I know. But I own a purple Jeep... so subtlety has never really been a concern. :) Anywho... the size of the container is great. The problem is that there are four latches (2 in front, 2 in back) and each one has a small hole (maybe 1/8") through both the tub and the lid to add a lock. If worse comes to worse, I guess I could buy four small Master locks that are all keyed the same, but then any time I want into the tote I have to undo and redo four locks. I thought maybe a stainless steel cable through all four holes, but then how to lock them yet have them out of the way when I need access?

Is there a more elegant/simple solution to lock the tote to at least deter someone from stealing stuff in the summer when the Jeep has the widows off?

No need for locks, It will just be picked up whole and stolen
Fair point. That was part of the reason I was thinking of a stainless steel cable that could also run through the rear seat mounts in the floor-board. It can still be cut, but it will at least require a thief who came prepared rather than the casual passer-by.

Ok I’ll play, I‘m bored. Link to the product? Where exactly will it be in the Jeep?

You might want to consider how easy it would be to remove the hinge pin. It's likely much easier than you'd think. If I were going to break into that I'd look at the hinge side first and ignore your locks.

No hinge on the one I have. The lid comes completely off with four latches.

This is only for the casual thief walking by that doesn’t have bolt cutters or a sawzall or a tomahawk or propane torch in their pocket or all the other what if scenarios everyone is going to raise to say, nope it won’t work because…right?

Anyway I think I would add internal hinges to one side of the lid. Then add 3 stainless steel footman loops (one on each side of the box and one on the top) bolted through the box with nylock nuts on the inside. The cable length has to be just long enough to attach and lock to something on the floor or seat assembly of the Jeep without much play. To open it you unlock one side and slide the cable out of one footman loop. The cable should have enough flex to still allow the lid to open with it still passed through the other footman loops.

Thats the end of my brainstorm

Thanks all for the suggestions. With the Masterlock cables being 6' each I should be able to run them through the lock holes on either side and underneath to thread through the rear seat mounting points. That will secure the lid and the whole tote to the floor of the Jeep.
