The 300 mile break in is honestly kind of a bummer. I need to look into what required.

As far as savings, every dealer I either sat at their table with or called or emailed ( I spent allot of time)they were all thousands over. I truly wish to have bought locally. But there wasn’t a dealer willing to make it cost effective. I brought my Out of state quote to multiple dealers and they all thought I was lying. I even had them sign a quote as evidence and local dealers still wouldn’t even come close. I tried. Trust me I tried. But SoCal dealers wouldn’t compete. Bummer thing is I still have to pay the state tax. So it’s really the dealers that are losing out.

You can get 2% off factory invoice here in the OC. That’s why I asked you - by the time you add up the details the savings isn’t so great.

Of course each of us has a different threshold. I was only saving $800 with Marsh so I skipped it.

Great guy at Buena Park - Chris Girard.

ps Buena Park also takes credit union PenFed - which is about the lowest rate anywhere.. 3.49 for excellent credit.

That’s awesome their offering that deal now. But I called them back in September and wasnt getting that deal then. Lowest I got was 1% with a hassle and weeks of haggling. Such a headache. I got similar rate with navy fed.

Whose got info on the 300 mile break in period.

It’s discussed elsewhere on the forum.

First 60 miles under 55, 61-300 at or under 55, no cruise control, vary speed often.

That translates to city only no highway..

ps these days customers like are really are hammering away at their margins. Below invoice ears at their “holdback” which is money they get later from the manufacturer.

That’s why they make you take their financing or ding you $500, or that ridiculous $399 doc fee in Vegas.

They don’t take Navy Fed, so you’re gonna have to take ‘whatever’ from them and then do all the paperwork again in month 4 on your own. I was never sure how the title got from bank 1 to bank 2.

Thanks for that. Guess I won’t get to “cruise control” home from Vegas. And frequent pee breaks.

Yeah it’s not that bad. All the drama is pretty dumb. Not too hard to drive back from Vegas at 55 or less varying speeds. It just isn’t.

Well, Antonio at Marsh Jeep in Vegas is still up to his old tricks. He is still offering a total of a 5% discount below invoice (4% + an extra 1% with a $100 Tread Lightly membership). I live in SoCal and called a number of dealers around here, and not one of them would come close.

I ordered a fairly loaded Rubicon Unlimited from him a couple of days ago and wanted to let folks know how different this experience was compared to my other vehicle purchases. The entire transaction was done mostly via e-mail with no pressure and no hassle. He helped me through the process, answered all questions in a timely fashion, and explained what I would need to do to get it registered here in SoCal. If interested, here is his e-mail - [email protected].

I look forward to a trip to Vegas in a couple of months to bring back a new Jeep Rubicon!

I will keep everyone posted on how the rest of the transactions goes.
Had a great experience with these guys.

The full California tax or the difference? The dealer said that all I need to pay is the difference.

Why on earth would I need a smog check on a brand new vehicle?
Yes you will pay smog and sales tax.
It's the Komifornia way.
We need to pay for all the handouts going on.

I got a quote from Jim Marsh, $525 in total fee excl tax & reg. I also got a quote from Kent Shurtleff up in Idaho. $328 in total fees, excl tax & reg. Shurtleff still comes to about $1500 less.

Yesterday, I went to Victorville Motors to see what they had in stock. I've talked to their salesman a few times and just told him straight up - I want to check the stock, see if there's something I'd be willing to settle with, otherwise lets talk about placing an order.

Well, they didn't have what I'm looking for in stock so I went back into the office with one of their managers. He started to try their "The best deal you're going to get is the difference between invoice and MSRP. Maybe 1% off". He was none too happy when I pulled the quote out of my pocket. "This is what I'm being quoted." Heck, before we even went into the office when they INITIALLY tried that BS, I told him "I know Jim Marsh in Vegas is doing 5% under with Tread Lightly". They didn't seem to know what that was, or even acknowledge it.... I was wearing the tread lightly shirt and to be a smartass I tugged at it a few times.

His response was "It makes no sense why'd they do that. They're losing $2500 on the sale. I won't do that." At that point I should have pointed out to him that I have been driving my Titan I bought brand new going on 14 years now, and asked if 14 years of advertising was worth $2500 to him? (Who doesn't ask "Where'd you buy from?" when you tell them you got a great deal on you're new vehicle???) I wasn't on the debate team in school lol. He went on and on about how losing money to make a sale just wasn't worth it and if I had a trade in he could make the numbers work by taking it from the trade, but there was absolutely no way he'd do it. Blows my mind that they wouldn't want to make a sale. Take a loss on a Jeep here and there, write it off at advertisement and know you're likely to get future business from that person in other cars, maintenance, parts, etc.

Long story aside, I wanted to point out the difference I'm finding. Also that I'm finding some of these comments in the thread a little ridiculous. So that difference is $2500, before fees. VV's price was maybe 3% under invoice. They didn't even bother discussing fees. I'm still saving $2200 going out of state if they charged no addtl fees. You're not paying taxes twice. If they charge a state tax, you'll pay the difference that Cali would have charged. For me, that is 4 years worth of registration fees. In fact, that extra money you're paying to buy in Cali with these dealers who refuse to compete is going to increase you're annual registration fees. (A difference of $30/yr in my case).

Money aside, why are you REWARDING dealers who REFUSE to compete for your business? That is a Welfare State Mentality. No. They're not getting hand outs from me. I don't know where this $800 difference is coming from, but even if it was $300, I'd walk. They want my business they can earn it.

As far as the break in period - Have you driven to Vegas in the last, oh, 5 - 10 years? You'll probably struggle stayin above 55 driving down the 15. People are too busy Instagraming or Facebagging to pay attention to the road. Buy you're jeep Friday-Sunday and don't worry about break in, you'll be crawling home anyway.

Just my two cents and could very well be proven wrong. I don't think many of the dealers can compete with the likes of Jim Marsh because they don't push the same volume. My understanding is the more volume the dealer sells the more kick backs they get from the factory... thus enabling them to lower the prices.

I settled on 1% below invoice with a Socal dealer fully knowing I could do better in Vegas. The added hassle wasn't worth it in the big picture.

I’ve been a lurker for a while, finally signed up.

Called a four places in Southern California. One dealership told me I wouldn’t be able to price it out if the car wasn’t on the lot (makes no sense). The second offered 5% off msrp. The third never replied back. The fourth dealership in Barstow offered me 5% off my order plus free lifetime power train warranty by Allstate.

I’m shooting for 10% off msrp without having to leave California. I still have more dealerships to call.

What do you guys think?

Just to clarify, this is for an ordered vehicle. So invoice + lifetime powertrain warranty.

I’ve got 5% off INVOICE. Which is well below msrp. But if their throwing in incentives that’s awesome and I wonder what the cost difference is.

Hi. So in Buena Park I got 2% off invoice. Most of us here talk about x below invoice, but it calculates to 7.72% off MSRP if you prefer.

We are all talking about factory-ordered vehicles. Purchasing off the lot is probably a whole different animal..

I found two dealers in Orange County who would do 2% off invoice, many who wouldn't even discuss a discount since it was obviously what one correctly referred to as a "race to the bottom". I checked down in Carlsbad too just for the heck of it..

As I provided above, when I did the math on Vegas vs 2% off here the savings was roughly $686 - for me, not worth all the mishigas of doing Vegas. Others disagreed with me, but not one has commented since I posted my actual math.

p.s. I once bought a Jeep from Ontario, CA - very smooth. Be sure and talk to them :)
