Running around today I stayed off the interstates where also drive 78-81 and ran 60-65 on 4 lanes and got 20 or so...
20 sounds a lot better. I get 19-20 in my manual JK - would not like to drop down from that in a JL. Anyway I never really liked approaching 80 mph in anything but straight lines. Feels like it's drifting out in curves at my chosen tire pressure of 32 psi. (35's too harsh of a ride.)

Correct, heard/read somewhere recently that Sahara and Rubicon are both irrelevant to EPA calculations.
TFL claimed they got 25mpg on their Sahara driving from Arizona back to Colorado. I haven't driven my Rubi enough on the highway to get a clear idea of what the optimal highway fuel economy is when not driving like a jackass, but I would imagine it'd get decent numbers keeping it at a steady speed and under 75.

City mileage in a Wrangler is always going to be awful, no matter what.

I'm hovering around 17 as well with a mix, but mostly highway 65/70 MPH. Hell If I go slower I'll get run over! This is my second full tank, the first one I forgot to set the trip, so we'll see.

Interestingly, there’s not much loss of economy when driving without the roof or with windows open on the highway. The thing is so much of a brick that more turbulence doesn’t really change anything.

Must. Be. Patient.

Those real world MPG numbers are unacceptable. 17? Ugh. F250s and Ram 2500s get better FFS!

I think not only will the Ecoschnitzel get better mileage unladen, I'm betting it'll be night and day when loaded and//or towing.

PS, My TJ gets 1-2 MPG better with the top off, city and highway. And smiles per mile are exponentially higher!

Jeepless at the moment.
My JK averaged 13 with the same use. I still drove it. Vast improvement. Incredibly acceptable.

I am waiting to see the EPA estimates with the diesel. And yes, the JT Scrambler.

How does a stock Ram 2500 diesel get better than 17 mix use city/highway at 75 mph in crosswinds? I have owned quite a few trucks and the only way I would ever come close to seeing that mileage would be in a deleted truck with a manual trans RWD, which could get ~20. The F250 was drastically worse (but more fun to drive).

My 4WD Ram 2500 crew cab (Laramie) diesel (auto, not ASIN) got 14-15 in mixed city/highway going 75. Add ASIN and drop another 3 mpg.

FWIW, trucks although heavier, are probably more aerodynamic than the Wrangler.

And my TJ does get 17 mpg on the highway going 65 =) City destroys it though. 4.10 gears, 33's, 2" lift, 5.7 hemi. Take that from 65 to 75 and that 17 turns to 15. Do LOVE my TJ though.

EPA highway is based on 50 mph. It is not real world at all. I bet if I had a JL and drove it to Sedona and back, going 75 mph, I would average 17-18, about a 1 mpg improvement over a stock JK Rubi.
