Silly question, so shame me later...
Although it's my 3rd Wrangler, I figured I'd ask the more experienced people here so thank you in advance.

Taking my 2023 XR for its first service. I got a gut feeling that unless I explicitly demand specific work or items to be checked/replaced, they'll probably do "the usual" and, from my experience, never trust "the usual".

So what I'm asking is, do I need to make sure a specific oil, filter, and fluids are inspected and replaced with any 392 specific parts?

Any other recommendations on what to look for/confirm and make sure?

Thanks again

Where.....for the first service?

I’d pay particular attention to oil, specs, which can be found in your owner’s manual.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-40. I run a white SRT oil filter but the dealer probably won’t put one of those on unless you request it. It’ll fit in the stock location, filters better. Change it every 5K miles and you’ll be fine. Just make sure to check the oil yourself after you park it for a while…I don’t trust dealer techs to get something even as simple as an oil change right. At least around my area. The incompetence is insane.

Usually (not always) you have the lowest paid least experienced person doing the oil change. Just confirm oil level and no leaks after completed.

I get why some can not or choose not to do it their self but it is very easy and you will do at least as good a job as they do. Even when its free I would still do it myself.

So to sum it up, other than oil change (the proper one) and doing it well, and their 650239 point inspection, nothing else needs maintenance? Anything regarding air filter?

And a tire rotation if you’re using one of your free Waves. Mark the spare to keep them honest.

I personally replace the air and cabin filters after a year with washable ones. Dunno if the former is available for the 392.

Rolling the dice myself on a free Waves visit next week. Afraid they’ll fuck up the oil weight, amount, or both.

Don’t be afraid, just assume they will. My last 2 oil changes at a dealership cost a little over
$15k in repairs. 1 new engine and 1 complete engine pull to replace the oil pan. Good luck!

i Haven’t had a oil change done since. these were CDJR dealerships “Autonation” chain In CO. oil pan replacement on cummins 2500 was a “free wave” type program on new vehicle. So first oil change on a 60k truck required the engine to be removed to replace the pan that they air gunned the drain plug thru the bottom of the pan.

You should have an Owners Manual specific to the 392 (Jeep apparently calls it a Performance Features Guide), and it will have a section entitled "SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE". This section will provide a chart specifying the required maintenance and the maintenance interval.

I didn't see one for the 2023 on line, but here is the 2021 version:

I balked on the dealership doing my first oil change and did it myself. I used the SRT MO-899 filter though and 0w40 M1 oil. I don't think anything else was due to be looked at @ 5Kmi so... may dealer the next one.

FWIW if you do your own change the filter drainage is just messy. I use pet-pads here to keep oil from draining all over the suspension but somehow knocked it loose from the filter guide and oil went all over the linkages still. My steering dampener dust cover sucked up some of the oil and caused a drip for a day or so too. Watch that area if you change yourself. Took exactly 7qts with the revised metal pan and larger SRT filter.

I had them fuck up a fender and not the 392 goes to one specific tech according to the advisor even had the manager involved very helpful (surprisingly) and got it taken it care of and helped restore some faith with them.
