3.6 not going away?

Stellantis makes a lot more than Jeeps.

And I was referring to everything available "in their current line-up", not just Jeeps. You said the new engine wouldn't fit into most of their existing vehicles, and my questioning was why would they make an engine that wouldn't fit into at least a large portion of those.

My guess is the new inline six won’t fit in many pre-existing FCA vehicles.

I wish I could find the article from awhile back speculating on the Hurricane. It was a design mandate (at least at one time) that it fit anywhere a Hemi would. They outlined several areas where they were able to shed length off the engine even with the inline 6 layout. Yes, a V8 is only 4 cylinders along each side but the banks are offset to each other and the bores are of a larger diameter. So, 6 smaller diameter bores inline could theoretically be squished into roughly the same length.

... but if nothing else, I really wish I could just get the 3.6L Pentastar with an automatic without it being an eTorque (can still have ESS, but I'd prefer it without that too).

Why? The etorque seems to be a pretty reliable set-up and runs fine.

Thought for sure the 2.0 would take out the 3.6 on the wranglers and possibly see the hurricane but this makes me wonder.

The 3.6L is very reliable, produces good power and reasonable economy. When it comes to 2.0 or 3.6L, "you don't buy me out, I buy you out."

If it did, Stellantis wouldn’t be extending the life of the V6 as it apparently has decided to do...

Just picked up an X3 M for the wife (and me too, I mean who says no that?) - I really look forward to the day that an inline 6 is an option for the Wrangler. My 3.6 Rubicon is great, but the turbo inline 6 is like butter....I hope the Stellantis version is as smooth as BMW's

We'll see if those dimensions for the Hurricane hold true, I suppose. I still have never been able to find official H x W x L measurements of the new GME-T6. Only a chart on a few sketchy sites with no citation as to where they actually came from.

The 3.6 is a good engine. Its strengths and weaknesses are well understood, and overall it does solid duty. Good power. Reasonable efficiency. Generally reliable. Good to hear that Stellantis is planning to keep it around for a while.

Not everyone wants to pay to replace Turbos when they go bad. It’s also not just the Turbos that get damaged when they go bad either. Pulleys and Belts get wrecked and all three getting replaced/fixed cost some serious money.

The announcement from FCA says it shares the same bore size and bore spacing as the 2.0T. Do the math its a 1/2 longer then the 2.0. there is only so much you can take off the ends.

I loved my twin turbo 3.0 I6 in my BMW 135i, straight sixes are just incredible motors. We obviously know this from the absolute tractor engine that was Jeep's 4.0, too. Could be a cool powertrain for us here, though noting it's gotta be a bit longer than even the 392 so it'll be interesting how it is packaged into the JL. The Mopar catalog that the parts dept gave me a couple weeks ago has the Hurricane plastered all over the front page.

I'll have some of the same concerns with it as I did the 2.0 - new, unproven, more complex, but at least the engine itself is something I can be excited about rather than a fiat 4-banger (which is good in its own right, just not for me). I picked the 3.6 for many of the reasons people on here pick it, especially on a vehicle that's taking me sometimes 50+ miles from the nearest paved road: it's relatively simple, proven across tons of platforms including police duty and over a decade of use, and it's well known. It also has the bonus of being throaty, sporty, and quick to react when paired with the 8 speed. I noticed a little bit more power on the butt dyno while test driving 2.0s, but I just didn't like the aggressive cooling fan and washing-machine-mixed-with-Nissan Sentra-like noises that engine made which sealed the deal on top of the relatively unknown history of the engine, but maybe the gen2 4xe will sway me.
