Ok, so I have a 2020 3.6 with 63k on the clock. It started idling rough , ticking,, and the CEL came on. Took it to AutoZone and they read the codes, bad mix and misfire (thanks you useless EMC, I could have told you that). Anyway, bought new plugs and airfilter and it didn't fix it. What useless sensor failes most often to cause this?

Side note: whatever engineer that thought covering up the drivers side plugs up with the manifold was a good idea shouldn't be allowed to design a pencil.

I hadnt looked at spark plug location on mine yet but that sounds like a pain.

Could be a bad MAP sensor or a MAF sensor if our Jeeps even have one.

Is the code P0172? You may have bad O2 sensors. Where are you buying your gas?

“Bad mix” isn’t a code.

misfires don’t cause ticking noises. Ticking noises cause misfires.
What misfire codes? Cylinder specific or p0300?

Kid at autozone wouldn't let me do it myself. I couldn't tell you what specific code it threw out. So it looks like I'm chasing this down the hard way. I'll pull the top of the motor apart and see what I can find.

Who ever thought putting a computer in an off road vehicle was a good idea was a moron.

You are close enough to being in warranty that a good dealer should help you get that diagnosed and covered. Maybe get @JeepCares to help with this one. They helped me with screen delamination on my Uconnect after the 36k warranty was up. My dealership helped, too.

They didn’t give you a sheet of paper with the codes on it and try to sell you a cam sensor did they? You don’t own a scanner but want to tear into the engine blindly? That’s a bad idea man. You’ll do way more work than necessary.

Agreed, a nice little scanner that will do pretty much everything you need you can get off Amazon for $19 and maybe a couple bucks for shipping.

That's what I did. It's nice not having to rely on the dealership or auto stores to know exactly what's going on. It may be something really simple and a cheap scanner and a little research helps a lot.

Best of luck.

Lifters are fairly simple, I suppose.

I am having a repeat code P105D. I had the solenoid #2 replaced, 30-40 miles later again check engine P105D. After doing some research, it sounds like this is an issue for some. Any ideas?? 2018 JLU that has only 34,000 miles.

Guy is going to tear an engine apart with no idea what to even look for. Might be a better idea to find out what codes are being set and then fix what needs it. It's like buying a new short block when all you need was a gallon of gas.

This thread is over 2 years old and has nothing to do with the type of fault your Jeep is having. P105D is bank 2 VVL stuck in high lift position. Either the valve was bad or you have a bunch of metal shavings floating around in your engine. If the valve is replaced and it wasn't full of metal, the next step is pulling the valve cover.
