We could go wheelin! My 2-door and your 4-door. Well, and any of the yahoos on here that want to come too. I just found a place from one of the guys on here:

https://hardrockoffroadpark.net/4x4-vehicle

I haven't been - I just rolled this JL out of the garage. I haven't even tested it yet. Well, I've had it on the beach where I pulled a 3/4 ton 4 door chevy out and I also pulled out a Winnebago. Both stuck up to their bellies in the sand. But I've just gotten the wiring all finished up so it runs reliably now.

And those rims are brand new, Richard. Less than a month old!
it is a beautiful Jeep. I should be over that way in April. I try to swing into St. Augustine for bourbon when I am in that area. I will most likely wheel the Gultches in South Carolina if things work out as far as scheduling goes.

If you've no time to wheel we can still have whiskey and shoot some darts. My garage doubles as a low-end pub. ?? I'll even throw something on the smoker. IM me if you guys get close.

Will do. We always have a loose plan with room for adjustment. Except when seeing one of the kids(adult kids) as we have to fit into their schedule. So it will depend on how much Flexibility he has when we visit. Him in Fayetteville NC.

So basically a 2dr is great for going to the mall? Easy to park and maneuver in tight spots. It is the same width as the gladiator and the JLUR, it is just shorter, so like maybe three turns or so on the trail it is better.

Definitely buy the 2dr or lease it so that after you find out why less than 10% of wranglers that are sold are 2dr model you can transition back easily.

To me the 2dr is a niche vehicle market. It is not something you want to drive everyday, still cool mind you, and is only beneficial about 5% of the time on the trail. For every benefit it has, you have to compromise on 90% of the other areas.
WHAT thats you say? Only good for the mall and only 5% of the time on trails. ROFLMAO! I got more time standing on the side of a 7+ trail taking a piss that you got in the seat of your Jeep, I was wheeling before you were born. Yes we have owned had a JKUR and 2 JTRs.

Anyhow I'm sure that was in jest which if fine, all kidding aside I hope...

at 63 years old, we just became Jeep owners last summer. a vehicle that could haul kids around was no longer a factor. it is actually my wife's Willys (she's wanted a Jeep for years, and now finally has one), and her only requirements were that it had to be a two-door (because, in her words, "that's what real Jeeps are"), and a bare-bones Willys (because, also in her words, that's what real Jeeps are..."If I wanted a four-wheel drive Cadilac, I'd buy one")....anyway, we love the 2-door. easy to manuver in tight spaces, and a "lively" ride. just an overall, "fun to drive" vehicle. two-door might not be for everyone (families with kids), but for us, it's perfect.

lol I never wheel and didn’t know trails get rated higher than a 4. I usually just follow Toyotas and Subarus on the trail so that I know I can make it.

Just know at the end of the day no matter how cool a 2dr is, there is a dude out there with an SBXJ that can easily out wheel you and any 2dr. Said half ass seriously but still probably true.

I have not had a 2 door since my golden eagle in 1977. The last few jeeps I owned were a JKUR, A JlUR, and a Gladiator Rubicon
The jk was on 35s the JL was on 35s the, Gladiator is on 37s I am thinking about going to a 2dr rubicon. So I have a few questions. Those of you who are driving 2 door Rubis do you regret the loss of space assuming you had a 4 dr.? How is the ride compared to a 4 dr?
What were some of the things you liked better about the 2 dr or 4 door? MY gladiator is kick-ass but it has a miserable turning radius. This makes daily routines more difficult, like parking or going into parking structures. Plus it is tall and a bit of a hoist for me to get into. I am 70. And most importantly I miss having a soft top.

So hit me with your pros and cons. and anything else germain to this line of thought.
Sonot in any order below are jeeps
1)1977 golden eagle
2) 2020 gladiator rubicon
3) 2018 JLUR
4) 2008 JKUR

Your best bet will be to go take a nice test drive of both a 2dr and a 4dr. As you can see from posts, those who have a 2dr like theirs and those that have a 4dr like theirs. And almost no one wants to switch up for the other model. I think the 4dr looks better. I think the 4dr drives great. I don't care what anyone thinks constitutes "a real jeep". So I'd never buy a 2dr even though 95% of the time no one sits in the back of mine. But again, test drive and make your own opinions... Congrats on the pending purchase!

Weird. I daily drive my 2dr to the tune of about 25-30k miles a year. About 80% of those miles are interstate. That includes several long road trips to go camping/hit trails where I might be driving 8-10 hours a day. It's not a Bentley by any stretch of the imagination but not nearly as terrible as some want to make it out to be.

I keep my rear seat tumbled instead of taken out because I do have kids. Divorced tho so they're not always with me. It's not the best grocery getter when I do have them with me but it gets the job done. I drove a 5th Gen Camaro SS for 6-7 years prior to buying my JLR so they've grown up used to the 2dr life and they definitely haven't seen either as "comprised".

What is an SBXJ? I got no idea. But I will spank like a rented mule...,

Been driving my 2 drs since 65 including 12 mo living in my Jeep on the battlefield of Vietnam, with a multi-million candle power searchlight in the back and my job was to find the bad guys and radio the Infantry to shoot there, 80% of the time I was by myself. There were only about 40 of us that had this distinction. Did not last long I think about 3 and stopped doing it, due to slight dangers.

Off-road was a passion of mine until I hung up my spurs in 2011, I had wheeled in Europe, Asia, Mexico, Latin America, Canada, US from Wash State to FL, Maine to Ca, Alaska, and Hawaii. Rocks and what they call "Overlanding" today. I shy away from Mud and Sand, they will eat your vehicle from brake rotors to the engine, and sand, and mud gets in EVERYTHING.

Like you I guess when I sold my company the wife asked me what I wanted to do? I told her I wanted t to fulfill my passion for off-roading and I did that from 2003 -2010 and I even moved to Scottsdale AZ to be more centrally located to SW (Tex-Ca, Utah - Mexico) and that was my new Job in life, she did not see a lot of me over those years, but it was fun...13 trips to Moab, I think, lost track to be honest.

Stay safe out there off road is very dangerous, I've seen death out multiple times over the years...have fun!

"Shitbox XJ", maybe?
YEP! early XJs came with a CHEVY V 6 that had enough power on a windy day that it could pull your hat off your head.

The other killer was it was a UNIBODY, no real frame!

Oh man, I had completely forgotten about the 2.8. What a turd of a V6.
Not all bad, it could do the ¼ quarter (1320 ft) mile in 9.05 seconds....assuming you drove it off a 1320 ft cliff.
