Hi there!
This is my first forum post so if I haven't put this in the wrong place or use the right terms, forgive me. I am sincerely hoping that by posting this someone experiencing similar issues will see this and be able to tell me what they are doing/have done to fix it before I spend another $200 at the dealership for them to tell me the car is fine.
On Christmas eve this year we were driving on the highway going about 105km/hr and the steering wheel locked up on me. Thankfully we were able to put the hazards on, slow down and follow the curve of the highway to get to the shoulder and turn the car off. While this was all happening the Jeep just started throwing a code a seconds at us (probably 7-10 all at once saying a bunch of different errors). Some I can recall were faulty ABS, Parking Assist Faulty (I don't even have park assist), auto traction control error, etc. When we got to the side of the highway we turned the jeep off and waited a couple mins before turning it back on. When it came back on all the lights and codes were gone and just the check engine light was on. We drove home and left it parked until we could take it in on Jan 2.
When we took it into the dealer they kept it for a few hours and then came and told us that they could see there was numerous stored codes for all different reasons but that they checked the vehicle and it was in perfect condition. They said they took it for a road test and the issue didn't persist so they just chalked it up to a "fluke". Fast forward three weeks and it happens again (less the locked steering) so back we go to the dealership. This time they keep it for 5 hours and then come out and tell us the exact same thing but assure me that I shouldn't worry about it and that it isn't a safety issue because the steering is good. They even suggested that there was some device I could purchase, if I wanted to, to clear the codes myself if this happened again. That seemed unsafe as hell to me and so I just went home and hoped for the best. Another 2 weeks go by and we are back in again where I wait around 4 hours for them to come back and try to tell me the same thing again. At this point I am pleading with them to tell me if there is someone else we can talk to that can get to the bottom of this because this is getting ridiculous. The manager came out a while later and said that he would call Chrysler for next steps and then would contact me the following Monday. He never did.
The car went its longest stretch without issue until yesterday when I was exiting the highway and everything started lighting up like a Christmas tree again. Steering was ok albeit a bit shaky (but could have been in my head as I was looking for identifiable problems). Called the dealership today to tell them I am back in the same position again and said that I don't want to have to keep brining this in for this issue. They said they understand my frustration and that I can bring it back in and this time they will have to keep it for a few days and get an engineer to look at it. They told me that this is going to cost more than the initial checks but that they can't resolve the issue any other way for me. They also don't have any loner vehicles as they have discontinued that practice and so they could extend me a rental for three days at their rate of $60/day all without a guarantee that things will actually be fixed. Has anyone else had this kind of experience?
For what it's worth, I have had the car not even 4 years yet (will be in May) and it is just hitting around 106,000kms
If anyone has any insight I would be so thankful!! Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk if you have made it this far!
UPDATE: Just remembered that my insurance company had me go and have a TAG system installed back in November. Any chance that could be the problem?
