First post from a prospective JL owner, so please be gentle.
I went to see a 2020 Jeep Wrangler earlier this week and was surprised at how much rust there was underneath.
It has been based in Michigan, so snow, salt, rain etc.
I appreciate the video doesn't really focus on what I now know to be the particular problem areas but I wont get to take another look until the weekend as it is over an hour away from me.
To my non-Jeep trained eye it looks like the vehicle was seldom cleaned underneath and no anti-corrosion treatment was given.
It also looks like a bit of elbow grease, some Rustoleum rust reformer, undercoat, and Fluid Film and regular repeats and I think that I can stop the rot, so to speak.
For all of you who have faced similar, or worse, do you agree with my assessment that some remedial TLC will resolve the issue or is this just the tip of a huge iceberg that will simply rust to bits regardless of what I do?
I think my surprise at the amount of rust was because the bodywork is otherwise spotless, everything is stock, there are no signs of off-roading on the skid plates or the paintwork - the car looks like it has never been so much as up a curb, let alone up a trail.

Surface rust man. Pretty common areas. Paint a little thin on diff but nothing deep.

Little elbow grease and few chemicals be ok.

Oh and can see the salt on the aluminum. Your area still use a lot of salt on road?

That's a good view of the front axle. They should have shown you the rocker panels and rear, that's where most of it will be. I used to live up north, from what I see it's not bad. Mostly just the exposed metal which could be cleaned up. Even down south it is similar on my 2020.

That Jeep was obviously never rustproofed but that is still normal Jeep rust. Just use a metal brush to to brush off the dislodgeable surface rust, spray can it with Tremclad black rustproofing paint, and then get it rustproofed with the proper products. No one will know :)

A brand new one could look like that coming off the rail car. Nothing burger.

You are right to be concerned about a michigan car, but the effects have not shown up (yet).

Who wants to tell him about the hinges, hood and doors? ?
Surprisingly, there is no sign at all of galvanic corrosion on any of the hinges or door sills . . . yet !
It is coming off of a private lease so they kept the body and interior pristine, and completely ignored the chassis.

Mine has the galvanic corrosion on the doors. Had it fixed a year ago and its back. Dealer says the new fix is new design hinges. I have been waiting since June as they are supposedly on backorder. Jeep says maybe February. WTF.

We did find a little galvanic corrosion, which on the face of it is covered under the corrosion warranty BUT neither of my local CJDR dealers will take on that work as the Jeep was not bought from them.
The dealer who originally sold the car are 5 hours away near Detroit.
Anybody had any success finding a dealer that will go through the warranty and resolution on the Illinois/Wisconsin border even though they weren't the original dealer?

I saw this story a few days ago, a new Jeep with 200 miles on it in FL with severe rust. To me that sounds like someone took a test drive to the beach and drove it in the salt water. A few dealers in my area won’t let customers take a test drive without a sales man going along. To many people wanna have fun with no intentions of buying the vehicle.
