Hey All,

Very new here. Have been lurking mostly since getting my first Jeep. Just bought last month a 2018 JLU Sahara. Getting used to the nuances, the special stuff, and interesting things about this vehicle, but there’s one thing that is bothering me and ESPECIALLY my wife. When we open any of the 4 doors, there are no stops that keep the door open. I thought that maybe it was the way Jeeps are, but my brother in law has a 2018 JL as well (Sport S) and his doors stay open and have two distinct stops where you can leave the door.

In my wife’s words... The doors almost killed her and the dog a couple times already... and before I get a lift and tires, I have to get the doors to hold open rather than slamming each time they are release. Thoughts? Even when parked on a flat surface, the slam shut from any position.

It should have a door "catch" like a normal car does. Are you sure you bought a 2018 JL and not a 2018 JK? The JKs do not have a "catch" - only the strap.

Maybe the previous owner let the door stops snap into the doors when they had the doors off. They are spring loaded and can be difficult to pull back out of the doors. Are the screws there to attach the stops to the door jambs?

I'll have to double check the doors when I get back home from visiting family. I'm here with the family member that has door catches. I went online here in the forums. This is what my interior looks like nearly like. Have the upgraded infotainment system too. JL from everything I know. Dealer advertised it as JL too.

Yeah that's definitely a JL. Weird - you should have the door catches like in Dooky's picture.

The catches on my 2020 feel very "spring loaded" - it makes closing the door super easy (almost too easy. My wife and kids always slam the doors).

Now I can’t wait to get home on Saturday and look at my doors. Is it possible the dealership put JK doors on my JL when they “certified” it and prepped it for resale. Mechanically, it runs great. There are a number of small things that make me feel the previous owner modded it and ran it hard. Bumpers are brand new, New wheels and tires, and more.

IF the dealership put JK doors on it, I presume I have recourse and they have to replace with JL doors since it was advertised as JL?

LOL... totally right... and sorry for the cliffhanger. When you’re planning a lift and new tires and the wife says NO... NOT until the doors are fixed, it lights a fire under you.

^^^this. I would agree previous owner never reconnected the doors stops after removing doors.

So I went and took a look. The door stops are shoved all the way into the door. Easy to totally miss them. At first, I thought I'd be able to simply pull them out. Nope. Those suckers are in there tight. Saw a video on YouTube where a guy explained how to pull out the stops. Worked, but it definitely took some muscle. The wife is now happy!
