i have a huge question, and wanted help on other fellow jeepers who own a JL/JLU.. Well two days ago, I was driving on the highway, and stopped at a drive thru line, it was 103F out, AC on, and the line was long. when i looked down at my dash and the coolant light was on, and the gauge was all the way to the red part.. I pulled over and added coolant, and got it drained today. the day it happened, i drove back home after adding coolant and the gauge dropped back down a little below half. long story short, i went to my jeep dealer to get it checked out and they were completely useless. said it'd take 3 weeks to get it checked out. i decided to take it to my trusty mechanic and he drained it and checked it, added proper jeep coolant.. he said everything looked perfectly came up. he said if he seen any serious issues he wouldn't touch it so warranty could take over. he said it looked completely fine. i will def make an appointment at another authorized jeep dealership this week, to see what they say. my fear is coming up with such serious issues so early on :( i have a 2018 JLU Sport, v6 engine. since i know a lot of peeps on here are super jeep experienced, i'd like to get some advice or see if they have gone through something similar..

some things to mention: i did go mudding two months ago and under the hood was dirty.. i got it detailed by a professional who cleaned the whole engine and the bottom of my rig, never had any issues while on the trails up until the overheating yesterday. i was also low on coolant.

also, what coolant temp are you guys usually at? i checked my whole way to school (30 miles) and topped at 215 degrees, lowest 195

and here's a pic of my baby now that i've added a few more mods

I was initially thinking that maybe you had a bad/stuck thermostat but you stated that you had to add coolant. Was it just a little low or a lot low? Since your trusted mechanic looked at it and drained it id probably just drive as usual and see if it happens again, seems like you've done all the right things so far...

lolz, i got an appointment at a dealership where my college is located and theyre gonna get me in to check the issue today and do an oil change! so far, it hasn't heated up again. I just hope it isn't anything critical, and if it is that's what warranty is for right? I just wanna be able to drive my jeep around and not feel stressed out.

I like how the temp will float around between 195 and as high as 221 on the digital readout, while the little "gauge" holds rock steady. I don't know WTF is wrong with these things but a 26 degree variance does not seem normal to me. Yet to a JL, it is. They probably have an undersized circulation pump to save on gas or some stupid thing. Mine gets much hotter at idle than on the highway, even though the fan is clearly running.

Mine usually tops out at 215 too. Seems like your ranges are about right!
Ok, good! the highest I've seen it has been 220! i got it into a certified dealer in another town, and they were amazing! they ran diags, inspections, etc and said my jeep was in top condition, they couldn't find any issue relating to why the car overheated that one time. they're also gonna do maintenance work on a steering recall. (i should prob check my mopar acc more often lol) but all is well! I'm so pumped!

I was just thinking that!! Mine will also be floating around those ranges while the gauge doesn't budge whatsoever. it really settled my nerves knowing that it seems normal for a JL.. I got it into a dealership in another city and they were just amazing, totally beat the service dept from the dealership where i got my JL! they couldn't find any reason on why it overheated, said the jeep was perfect. hopefully i don't encounter any issues with it in a long time!
