Wait, wrong commercial. I do think I'm taking Cristina's side in the factory top may be a better choice for this Jeep. I like the safari look. I'll have to wait to see what Bestop rolls out. In the mean time, the hardtop with headliner is quiet and comfortable in the 20 degree morning drive to work.
THIS summer, I hope I can roll topless again. Already missing the warmer weather.
Still, snow driving has it's up sides.

Thanks. I really like it. The paint matches perfectly.
I will be pulling the panels out again at some point to finish sanding and then waxing. I had to bring her in today for inspection. Sanding is going slow because I don't want to get down to paint. This is why I say if I had it to do over I think it's worth having a pro do it. They would have the right tools and skills. lol
Here you can see the closeup and the valleys are still there. I polished it a bit for now, but will be back to smooth it out more.

Wha....
I'm waiting to hear what FCA thinks of my welds. If she's good I'll pull the panels and keep sanding. Can't just dig in or risk sanding down to paint and or primer. Then the whole mess starts over. I've already sanded them down 3 times due to bad paint.

I have never used Japan Dryer. It speeds up set time. The orange peel looks like it did not flow out so I would think the opposite? I would have probably tried a little reducer to help the flow? I am not a professional automotive painter though. I have experience painting with automotive paints and clears though. Just enough to be dangerous. lol. There are a lot of factors as to why there is orange peel. The spray gun, jet diameter, pressure, filter, dryness of supplied air, product, temps, ambient humidity/temps, are just some factors. Then there is the technique of laying it down. Most automotive paint are 2-parts systems. The color coat and actual clear. The clear actually has 2-parts also. The actual clear and the activator or hardener. The activator usually comes in different temp ranges. If your ambient temp is say 75 degrees, you would use a hardener that is rated for 70-80 degrees. That activator would give the clear the ideal flow and set time between coats for the ambient temp you are working in. Ovens are used in body shops to speed up the curing process so they can do volume. Like I said, painting is a lot more complex and complicated to do right. Automotive paints are expensive as are the supplies. A good Sata or Iwata spray gun is probably close to a $800+ today. I quart of quality clear and activator is about $100. Then there is the base color coat. Then there is the sand paper, buffing compounds, etc. Many times it cost the same or less to pay someone who does it for a living. I get the satisfaction of doing it yourself though.
Other enthusiast car brands like MINI, Porsche, Corvette offer choices for interior trim. Personally I think FCA should offer different color dash trims and other stuff like brake calipers. Maybe they will offer Mopar painted trims in the future? Or someone aftermarket? In the Corvette world there are many options for painted parts. Same with Porsche. There is a small company who started painting bumper plugs to fill holes from drilled bumpers. They progressed on to custom painting plastic interior trim pieces. The company is popular with the Porsche crowd. Another small vendor specializes in powder coating brake calipers. Really high quality work. True, hard core ,off-road junkies, probably cringe at the thought but I think that's where the Wrangler market is going. More flash. lol.

home depot, in paint. dries faster n flatter, with a bit of thinner.

I had so many thoughts to share on the whole thing but suffice to say, I was let down a bit when the dash wasn't to be body color after all and the only two choices were red (not even matching the Firecracker Red) or gray (that again doesn't match any of the 50 shades 
available). 
Doing it myself was a learning experience. I do like to tinker, fix, adjust, upgrade, play...
I've a new respect for those who do body repair and paint. The variables are enough to give me migraines. Still, I like it and I'm even enjoying the texture that the orange peal gives it. :dunno:
PS - I still think Sting Gray would have been my next color choice. Put down the torches and pitch forks!
