Its never so easy, the last big launch I did, we worked through our first list of part supply issues, you give an eta, everything is looking good.. and then... The next thing I know we are looking at xrays of bad etchings on a pcb board and trying to decide if we can fix the boards or wait to change the process in time.

Sorry not gonna ship out hacked up crap and made people wait. Some customers got mad.. oh well do you really want rushed out crap or wait for a working quality product?

Everyone buys components from others, and they in turn are buying stuff from others, a flood on the otherside of the world can reduce supply of something that delays other assemblies and so on.

Late May is judgement day. Will Jeep get my business, or the much better company offering less interesting vehicles, Toyota!

Ball's in your court, Jeep. You kinda make the simplest yet most in-demand and profitable vehicle currently on sale, so it's hard to cut you much slack.

keep in mind I'm talking about interchangeable between 2 door and 4 door JL's. Not JK's.
That's not what the original conversation was about. He was talking about JKs. You were so eager to try and correct someone and demonstrate you had some advanced knowledge you didn't bother to even know what was being discussed.

I noticed after my response, hence the second one. Having a bad day at work or something, grumpy pants? I hope your day improves.

Agreed. However, that explanation raises two fundamental questions for me:
  1. Why start at all if you only have parts on hand for 5 vehicles a day and lose the economy of scale
Maybe it's just a "gotta start somewhere" kinda thing. Or maybe they're feeling some kind of ethical obligation (yeah right) to get those December orders out.

Or they're just a car company ran incompetently.

Cars are definitely massive R&D and manufacturing undertaking, with dozens or hundreds of suppliers, and as much as I would give them sympathy due to this difficult task, other car companies are making cars without stumbling this much. The latest Tacoma, Accord, Mustang, or 3-series doesn't run into this many problems on release, nor do they get this cucked by suppliers, many of whom are very long term. The blame rests on FCA. I hope they get out of their Wrangler rut soon.

This thread needs some good vibes this morning! You'll all get your 2 doors eventually. Here's a lovely one:

In my mind 2 doors don't exist either! At least not very damn many of them. I was told by Chat this morning that start up was pushed back to 5/15/18. Don't know if I really believe that but my dealer heard from a "reliable source" that since 4/9 less than twenty 2 doors have been built and the first 5 were on 4/13 and were non salable pilots.
I have been sitting in D1 for 31 days now and I know there others in D1 for longer. My 2door is a simple Sport S with a hard top.
This start up is the most FUBARed I have ever seen! In my past life as an auto parts supplier, a lot of heads would have rolled for a performance like this. Almost like some people have theorized, that FCA wants out of 2 door and are showing it!
Well, not surprising, but MY chat person lol told me today that 2 doors production will start next week and also confirmed they are currently producing them. (The same person, same call)...
Sooo... I’ll work on my jeep “accessories meanwhile!

Well your money buy what ya want, but seems kinda odd cross shopping a Tacoma with a 2 door Jeep. I would think they offer different experiences but I have never driven a Tacoma so could be wrong.

I would think if a person needed a vehicle now, concerned about 1st year stuff, etc a JK would be the way to go. If I were in a hurry would grab a JK Willys, nicely optioned and discounts can be had.

You know what, I think I'm gonna post a 2 door photo every day in this thread until the first member here confirms theirs is delivered. Which is hopefully sometime in May.

Once I see one on a dealer lot, and confirm they've addressed the rusty frame shit, I'll place an order. I'm hoping a May order would arrive in time to still get some topless summer action in.

Problem being there's very little manual JK selection left. The Tacoma is the other manual 4x4 available, which is what I want.

They're both fun, for some reasons the same, and some reasons different. There's some overlap in the enjoyment for sure. And if I get a Tacoma it'll probably just be for two years until early JL problems are thoroughly addressed.

The main thing is that I've been pushing off a new vehicle with excuses for years, and I'm tired of exclusively driving a Honda.

that one guy, you're my kinda guy. frankly i'm disappointed and sick not of FCA and their delays, but of the frustration level displayed. bring on some 2 door pics and some positivity that one guy. because all times are soon, and we're pretty lucky to have a new wrangler JL toy to hope for. and it will be here soon enough.....
