Well, I hate to burst any of you guys bubbles, but have any of you, with the muffler delete kits ever thought about how your neighbors feel about the extra noise?? I know, where I live, it seems every idiot high school boy thinks a loud popcorn farting 4 banger sounds good. But, in reality, it pisses most every one else off. Right up there with straight pipes on motorcycles, and douchbags who grunt really loud in the gym. It screams "Hey everyone, look at me".
Not to burst your bubble, but your neighbors don't give 2 shits about your opinion of any of their car mods. A. My ram with stock exhaust is still louder than the jeep with the delete B. I didn't delete the muffler for sound, I actually wheel my jeep and the muffler had multiple dents and scrapes. C. The turbo is a muffler, which is why it is legal to not run another muffler. D. As soon as you pay my mortgage, buy my vehicles, pay for and install my mods, I might start to value your opinion Karen

Good to rest your case when you don't have one. The 2.0t with no muffler meets noise requirements, carb restrictions, and all legal parameters. For the same reason fiat sold the Abarth with no muffler from the factory. Why are you entitled to tell people what they should do, especially when they are well within their rights to do so?

A delete will not affect the A/F ratio (that's at the intake end) although it may affect exhaust scavenging.

The worst part about a delete is the drone. IMHO, it really sucks.

I also have the Borla "Climber" exhaust on my JL. It is up and out of the way plus it sounds good.

Even though I'm not doing it for sound I listened to some videos on YouTube and it sounded pretty good. A bit louder then stock but deeper. Which is good. Is that how it sounds in person?

I looked into that exhaust. Seemed a bit pricey. I'm not looking to spend $600+ just to clear up some space under the rear end and drop a little weight.

I didn't hear anyone complaining of drone in the videos I watched. Not saying there isn't a little bit. I'm one of those people that don't mind I little drone though as long as it's not constant. Drone always gave my vehicles a little performance sound feel to me. I've had everything from V8 Dodge Challenger Scat Packs , Camaro SS to Turbo 4 Focus STs and WRXs!

One of the first MODs I'm looking to do is remove that gigantic rear muffler off the rear end of the Jeep. That thing has got to be at least 30lbs. Also I'm sure it hits everything while off roading.
Just for reference I weighed my stock muffler vs. AFE

26lbs - stock
17lbs - aFe

Go with what works for you. If drone is not an issue for you then that's great. You will get some and I personally don't care for it at all.

I've owned quite a few vehicles as well and have dealt with drone issues because I can't leave 'em stock. I think you know where I'm coming from.

I think the worst was the 2014 Ram 2500 with the 6.4L HEMI. I deleted the resonator and it wasn't pleasant. I ended up with a Corsa muffler on it which worked great.

My 2017 Ram CTD got a full delete and in that case sound of the straight pipes became too much after a couple of hours on the road. A Corsa muffler on that truck did the trick as well.

My Chrysler 300 SRT8 got a full muffler back Corsa exhaust after trying a pair of Magnaflow mufflers and a resonator delete which droned incessantly on the freeway. Long trips were no fun. After the Corsa install on that car all was well.

So, go with what you think will work. A muffler delete on your JL will result in some drone but if you can stand it then go with it.

Good luck.

There is no real difference in drone since the cat and resonators are all the same as before.
Its a turbo motor, which already eliminates and smooths out a lot of the 'ricer' resonance everyone equates to 4 cylinder engines.
Cold startup is louder, but once it warms up, its basically the same. Again, its one muffler, you still have the cat, the giant resonator in the middle and the turbo killing most of the annoying 4 cylinder sounds.

I wouldn't spend money on an exhaust system on the JL. People might feel like they're getting a better sound spending 1k+ on a full system, but the existing piping is already smooth, the one kink being on the rear muffler. The factory resonator is going to drone less than a 'performance' system. And without deleting the cat, you're not going to see any real performance or flow difference anyway.

Thanks. This definitely makes sense and agrees with what I heard in the YouTube videos I watched. From what I can tell the muffler delete sounded good. Nice and deep compared to stock. Had a good performance sound to it.

These modern 4 cylinder Turbo engines are definitely performance engines. It's amazing how well they perform. It will be nice to get that big heavy stock muffler off and make it sound good as well.

Yeah all my trucks I owned I left stock. All V8s except for 1. I felt like the Tundra and the Ram had drone even with stock exhaust. Most of my V8s did.

I weighed the muffler delete pipe, 6 lbs. A 20 lb savings, much more clearance, and the rear underfloor storage doesn't double as a toaster oven. That's a benefit nobody thinks about. I was amazed how hot that floor well would get after a long drive.

It is a little loud on a cold start, but otherwise I don’t even notice it driving. You can hear it if you get in to the throttle, but it’s hardly noticeable in my opinion. It will never be some kind of amazing sound, it’s a small turbo 4 cylinder after all.
