I have a 2021 JLR with a little over 15k miles. It is making a really loud noise when over 50 mph and going uphill. Most times the noise goes away when I shift into 4H. The dealer spent over three weeks trying to figure it out, including checking the wheel hub bearings, but was unsuccessful.

I am out ideas and seeking your help. In the attached video you can hear the noise going uphill and the disappear when I get to the top.

A few things about my Jeep; I’ve installed RCV Performance Axles with FAD delete, 5:13 gears, Reid Racing Knuckles, Dynatrac ball joints and Tom Woods Drive Shafts.

A few questions lol...
Does it change with engine RPM?
Does it change if you downshift?
Is it only in certain gears?
Does it get louder if you give it more gas but stay in the same gear?
Does it change if you accelerate and downshift?
Do you hear it if you accelerate downhill?
Does it only happen going up hills? What about on flat ground accelerating?

You said the noise goes away if you shift into 4Hi. Is this select-trac with 4hi-auto?

It’s an 8 speed auto without select-trac. The noise doesn’t really change with RPM, it’s more like the weight shift creates it (where the front unloads a little bit). Going downhill the weight shifts a little to the front and the sound goes away. On flat ground the sound will also occur if I hit a bump on the highway that shifts the weight to the rear and won’t go away until the weight shifts back. It feels like 4H helps keep the front end loaded to keep the sound from occurring, but it’s not 100% fix.

Another thing to point out is I have a 3 link long arm in the rear, with 4 link short/mid arms in the front (RK T-Rex) and Anti-Rock front and rear.

The more I watch the video and listen...the way the sound just drops out at the top of the hill...just WTF. I think it's a bad gear setup honestly. Either the gears themselves or a bearing, something is off and I bet it's in the front differential.

Was the vehicle flashed/programed to represent the 5.13 gear change?

Exactly, WTF! My front diff bolts were a little loose so I thought it could be low diff fluid. If it was a gear issue, wouldn’t it be worse in 4H?

Not really because in 4wd you are loading the differential and the sound is coming when it is unloaded. If it was me I'd take the cover off and see if you can spot anything obvious. Maybe double check the gear pattern while you are in there.

Will do, I would love it to be just changing the gears. I let you know how it goes. Thanks
