12v battery question…

Since the 12v battery in the 4xe isn’t used to start the ICE, is there a reason one couldn’t use something like a Renogy deep cycle 100ah AGM battery instead? The 880 CCA of a yellow top isn’t needed and the Renogy has higher AH rating. It run something like a fridge for longer before dropping below the threshold to start/charge the 12v battery again.

Renogy deep cycle 100ah AGM battery may require a different charging cycle (input) than that of the OEM battery. I don't know if the charging system is designed for the deep cycle 100ah AGM battery.

I went with the deep cycle 100ah AGM battery on my boat, but I was able to reprogram the built-in battery charger to accomdate the deep cycle 100ah AGM battery.

I think you could. The factory battery is an AGM as well so the same parameters should apply. The DC-DC battery charger in the 4xe is an outstanding high current charger.

One factor to consider is if you will winch or not. If you're just overlanding and running a refrigerator for long periods, then a standard deep cycle may be fine. But if you're running high current loads like a winch, then you'll want a battery designed for that - it makes it like a starting battery, and that's where the optima yellow top is designed for that dual purpose use.

An option that many have gone with is the Odyssey AGM 94R-H7.

If you really want an upgrade, look at an antigravity lithium battery. Be sure to bring your gold bullion.
