JLU Rear Seat Delete ($125 in materials)

So I was looking at rear seat deletes and everything was $500+ so I found a metal cabinet, took the sides off it, and used some angle iron from lowes and created this for $125 bucks. Ordering a rear Jeep mat to put on it but it will hold my 200+lb butt so...

so there is about 7 inches of clearance underneath (except where the hump in the middle of the jeep is). It is a perfect fit for my jeep hammock. It is a hammock holder you stick in the trailer hitch. Takes up a lot of room when I just had the back to put it in, now I can slide it all under the platform and still have room for my tow ropes, small toolset, etc. It is perfect for my dog and leaves the rest of the back open for cooler, tent, removable side pannels, etc.

right???? You could use old washers and dryers just about anything. I got this out of the tech dumpster at our school. It has been in my garage for years just taking up space. It was the perfect size.

Just goes to show you that you do not have to throw down a grand or more for storage space.
I would like to see more of the do it yourself projects. Not everyone has the cash to put down on brand name equipment. There are a lot of smart people out there who have made some amazing and interesting items for their Jeeps

I did this. I think I had less than $30 into it. Basically three piano hinges and some spare plywood I had from another project.

I used a solid steal plate and two square pipes to existing floor bolt holes, cost me like 40 bucks from the scrap yard and my tig

When we bought our 2-door JLR, we immediately took out the back seat and put it in storage. Then, I bought a horse mat and a locking truck storage box from Tractor Supply. I cut the horse mat to fit the entire rear comparment (including a cutout for the rear speaker).

To mount the storage box, I used 2 U-bolts attached to the rear seat anchors and fed through drilled holes in the inside bottom of the box. That way it can't be removed when the storage box is locked. In the rare occasion where we need the rear seat, the storage box is easily removable just by unscrewing the U-bolts.

Finally, I built a custom 4-inch high tray that bolts to the top of storage box. In my case, I fitted it with dividers that exactly fit our 2 cats' crate because they travel with us all the time. Since there was a gap between the storage box and the sides, I also added two squarish storage compartments on the underside of the tray at the outside edges (with velcro covers).

I'm attaching a picture but it's kinda hard to see since everything is painted gloss black.
