Can we run the cargo dog lights off a USB-A to 12V socket adapter plugged in inside the armrest like this one? Only 8W, so charging will be out of the question. I don’t see me charging anything inside that hole anyway.

Did any of you purchase the 40% bracket? If yes, did you install it with the CD? I could not get the CD to sit right and took the 40% bracket out.
Also, did you all leave the spring loaded filler plate? I removed mine but have pretty big gap with no carpet / nothing and it doesn’t look like the pics.
Many thanks!

I get it. Sometimes I overthink things.
While I have you… dumb question.

- Aren’t all of the USB connections in the center console 5V?
- Doesn’t the cargo dog take 12V?

Not a dumb question. I tapped into the wiring harness prior to the connector. I believe most leds will run on a range of voltage. I will defer to someone like @THAW for your answer.

I've never seen the wiring in the center console, but the voltage conversion (12V stepped down to 5V) almost certainly occurs inside the USB outlet itself. So, tapping the harness wires as @Terrymo did would provide the required 12V to the Cargo Dog (as he indicated).

As for the "easy button" Amazon USB/12V dongle @JMP suggested, it's difficult to say whether it would provide enough current for the LEDs to function. At 8 watts, it's capable of providing only about 5 or 6% of the power that JL 12V outlets do. I'd guess the several combined feet of LED strip lights in the Cargo Dog use around 5 watts and the voltmeter uses around one (so borderline, and the charging ports would be unusable for many devices and/or if you want the lights to work).

FYI, LEDs do have a voltage range, but it's somewhat unlikely a basic nominal 12V LED's range would include 5V (and if it works at 5V, it might be dim). It's a non-issue because both of your power connection methods provide 12V to the Cargo Dog (which it can convert however it likes for whatever LEDs it has, though they're likely 12V).

Thanks. I’d rather have you respond than me guessing. I know just enough about electrical things to avoid melting a wire or popping a fuse. That’s about it.

Well I’m a bit of an idiot.

So, I called cargo dog and they said that I should have gotten an adapter with it the kit. Sure enough, I did 😂

This part was surprising… he said the USB in the center console is a 12V USB and is the second strongest power source in the Jeep. Said I’ll be fine to charge phones and GoPro or whatever from the Cargo Dog without issues.

I’ll let y’all know how it goes when I get the jeep back in a month or so!
