That number will probably go way down soon if the wrangler doesn’t qualify for the tax credit after the rules change set to go in effect 4/18. $7500 covered most of the price increase from the ice model to the 4xe of the same model.

First time wrangler buyer, not my first Jeep though.

I bought it knowing I could not get the tax credit, so I think they will still sell. I was torn between the 4xe and 392. While the 4xe is NOT a 392, it is close enough for me and helps me drive more sanely. I think the 392 would have helped me get into too much trouble. Besides, I am in the process of LS swapping one of my scramblers, so I will have that if I really want speed. (L92 6.2 / NV4500 / NP241C / D44 / D60)

I see more 4xeā€˜s around me than I would have thought. Heck, only 2 vehicles at the work charger are 2 wrangler 4xeā€˜s on most days.

I think the 4xe sells well because of the blend of extra power AND ability to be efficient. Best of both worlds.

Strange rental companies would use PHEVs, especially a pricey 4xe at that.

National had regular Wranglers for quite a few years.
Well each one got you a 7500 federal credit and some states give you credits also. Not to mention HOV lane use sometimes, maybe better parking for customers, higher resale after rental use, etc.

I'm a first time Jeep buyer and the $7500 was a big incentive on why I went with the 4xe. This is the first I've heard about the tax credit changing. I'm still waiting for my order. Rats.
Don’t take my word as gospel on not getting the tax credit. Each company will submit guidance to the feds on the details of the battery. But very few vehicles will get the full 7500 from what I’ve seen. On a small side note, it appears like the lease loophole might still be intact.

Fast forward 10 years and it’ll be a terrible time to buy a used wrangler

Electric Cars Are Bankrupting the Auto Industry
Daniel Greenfield, 03 Apr 07:31 PM

Ford reported that it’s going to lose $3 billion on electric cars in 2023.

Unlike most automakers, Ford reports its electric vehicle numbers separately, but experts estimate that most car companies are losing similar amounts on the dead end business.

Ford’s investment in Rivian’s electric cars can’t be helping. Last year the startup electric pickup truck maker was spending $220,000 to make the electric vehicles that it sells for $81,000.

You are right. But just because the ā€œnew to the EV gameā€ are losing tons of money on EV’s doesn’t mean all will. Tesla makes more profit per car, by a large margin, other car manufacturers. They have found process efficiency that GM, ford etc has not yet.
Do I think EV’s are the future? No. Not enough raw materials on earth for that. But it will be a decent stepping stone to the next technology.

It's only going to get worse for the likes of Ford, GM and Stellantis when Tesla starts to pump out better for much cheaper EVs, while the big 3 try to sell for $60K+
