Is that an Alpaca Brown Golden Eagle? I bet selling that was extremely difficult. I'm sad for you...

I took a Commander and a Patriot on a test drive back in 2012....

Bought a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 that was 2K cheaper than the Patriot was.

LOL! For a number of years I had two of them at the same time: a Rubicon for wheeling and a Sahara for winter road tripping.

It’s hard to pick an overall winner. If I could pick my top three, it’d be my current 2018 JL Sahara (Firecracker), the 2015 Sahara (Tank), and that 2013 JK Rubicon 2-door (Commando).

Picking the worst one is very easy: that 2018 JKUR Recon...

What went wrong with the Recon?

I'd say of any JK to get that would top my list.

Yeah, it looked good on paper, but that’s it.

List of “issues”:
  • I don’t know if it was the standard reinforced axles, but the ride and handling were rather tractor-like. Even with KO2s.
  • Although it was among the last JKs to be produced, it had the worst assembly quality. The driver seat started squeaking at 3,000 miles; the passenger side A-pillar developed a loud “clunk” noise; the hood was grossly misaligned and those Rubicon stickers highlighted the shoddy assembly. To make it all worse, the dealer (the same I have nearby today) repeatedly refused to fix any of it —that’s a separate chapter onto itself
  • It was the most expensive Jeep I had purchased: MSRP was $52,000; paid $46,000. Yet it had the worst depreciation of all Wranglers I’ve owned. I wasn’t able to get more than $37,000 with only 8,000 miles. That was the going rate for those things back then
I was so disgusted with that Jeep and with the dealer, that I drove across the street and dumped it at a Toyota dealership. That Jeep has soured me a bit on Rubicons to this day.

By contrast, my JL Sahara has been a delight: it’s been totally trouble-free, the assembly quality is top-notch, the Firecracker paint looks deep, rich and lustrous, the interior is still as rattle free as the day I bought the Jeep 26 months ago; the engine and transmission are smooth, responsive and refined, the Selec-Trac works amazingly.

The dealer remains a sore point in the overall Jeep ownership experience, though...

Yes it was. Love/hate relationship. The final straw was blowing out the QT transfercase, too much $$ to axle swap new t case, transmission out put shaft etc.

Ugh... Guess I dodged a bullet by sticking with the JL instead of falling for one of the JK special editions I really liked.
