Not supposed to charge for a notary in Texas. Just sayin'.

Since when? Notary's are allowed to charge for their services. Atleast they were the were when I last had min 10 years ago.

Get the VIN so you can see what options you are paying for then go to truecar.com so you can see your invoice vs MSRP price.

Negotiate base on invoice.

Every state has different caps on dealer doc fees/processing fees.

I believe that it's against the law in Texas to charge for the service of a notary...I know that it is at least it is in hospitals. I have a couple of friends that are also notaries and they aren't allowed to charge for their service...or so they say.

I dont want to make a federal case out of this....but no, it is not illegal to charge for it in Texas. In fact it is in the Texas code that you can. Usually it is capped at $6 but you can charge additional based off what services you are providing and the amount of signatures. Hospitals could have an exemption but not banks and other service providers. Keep in mind it cost many to get the notary and one should not be expected to give away there services for free. Any who I am sure that some states may not allow this but easy way to get around it is lump it in the dealer fees.

Still does change the fact that some of our Jeep brother and sisters are getting bent over on these dealer fees.

I wouldn't mind a new JL but dread the buying process. I am a good haggler and can walk away from any deal because I am unemotional about any financial deal, but I don't care for the time and hassle. Last time I stopped at a Jeep dealership in Chicagoland to look at some Jeeps on the lot, two guys were out on us like white on rice. My wife and I happen to look rather young for our age, and one sales guy said we were out buying a new car with our parents (who were really our friends and same age)! What the hell are these sales guys thinking sometimes. I was embarrassed for our friends. The hard-sell from the sales guys didn't bother me because I am a Chicagoan and used to that cr*p, but my friends from out of state were like shell shocked, lol. Anyway, do these dealership and sales persons realize they are shooting themselves in the foot and losing sales?! I'll flipping drive my CJ into the ground before I waste my time with some of these clowns. In fact I missed out on a Unimog 404 while traveling overseas - I would have taken that for 10 grand over a JL dealing with the hassles, cost and insurance.

To the OP, you are getting a good deal. Your dealer charges a high processing fee, but everything else is just state taxes and such on top of a good 10% discount.

Look at your sticker at see if the total MSRP is $43,315 (=41,870 + 1445). If it is then you are fine. My guess is that this is the case, and they separated out the delivery fee so as to avoid giving you 10% off of that amount and put $145 back in their pocket. Mildly annoying, but not a big deal considering the good discount you're getting. Don't worry about it.

To me it’s about the OTD cost. If that’s ok, then I don’t care what the fees are. Know what price your willing to pay and work to that number.

What is the MSRP? You can see this by looking at their website.

Working on a JL unlimited Sport s now. sales price is 10% under MSRP, but then other fees stack up. Would you help me check that if that look right?

Here in Nebraska they don't include sales tax in the sale, you end up paying it at the DMV when you register. Kind of sucks to cut a $3500 check (7%sales tax) to the DMV after paying $50k for a vehicle.

I looked at the Koon's site and saw many listed with an MSRP of $41,870 and none with an MSRP of $43,315.

Based on this it looks like they are scamming and charging a double delivery fee. Unless they list MSRP without delivery fee on their site which is very deceptive...

Checked Jeep.com for Koons and the MSRPs are in fact $41,870. This means they are changing a double delivery fee.

Additional delivery fee of $1,495
DOC Fee $699

Basically an additional $2200 in fees. With that factored in, Koons is a crap deal, unless the OP is not showing true Koons paperwork.

How they split the prices out is really a moot point. I used to own a motorcycle dealership and the "destination fee" was basically prep and setup. You would think that is already included. The dealer can waive that. Or drop the price of the vehicle. Since the destination fee is often seen as "labor" the dealership often doesn't have to pay sales taxes on the destination fee.

Here is a crazy idea OP...Why don't you pick up the phone and actually ask them the question?!? If you like what you hear, buy the car, if you don't, try another dealership. It is really, really not that difficult. You people crack me up...You want the dealership to make next to zero on the sale, and expect them to treat you like you are their best customer.
Take it from someone who put themselves through school peddling iron, there is no shortage of know-it-all-beaters out there, and that side of the desk has as little regard for you as you do for them...!

That is how Koons works. What you are getting is the "Wow" price, plus destination fee. It's their way of making the Wow price look better, even though they don't actually sell them at that price. Most dealerships pull this nonsense with their Internet pricing.

End of the day, if you think it's a decent deal (it doesn't look like a bad one to me), then go for it. If not, then thank them for their time and walk away.
