Thank you! Wouldn’t aftermarket wheels with correct backspacing and offset eliminate the need for wheel spacers?I had the rough country spacer lift $179 (they have a JL version out), i believe it came with spacers, shock extensions, and a couple other components. Ride was great, very close to stock, cheap price, and i was able to run 35s. The only issue you will likely run into is the need for wheel spacers. I ended up getting spidertrax ones, i think 1.5". These allow the tires to be pushed out 1.5" so they don't rub when you turn. Discount tire did not like them, but they did let me get the larger tires.
Ok, now I’m getting excited...If that is all you are going to do the 3/4 front spacer will do. We have a JLU Sahara locally that we installe djust the front 3/4 spacer and he is running 35x12.50 tires with no issues, and mild off roading.
What would be perfect would be 1.5 spacer in the front and 3/4 in the rear. That would be easy and not require any other items. Cross caster would still be very acceptable.
As of right now no one is offering a 3/4 rear spacer but you can make your own.
Front spacers from 1/2 up to 3 inch are readily available.
The TC kit is 2.5”, right? If 2.5” is required, I’ll probably skip the 35s.I spent the first 3 weeks of January testing every kind of spacer on my JLU Sahara.
I went from 3/4 in front all the way to 3 front/ 2 rear.
Best combo was 2frt/1rear with 35 Duratracs. It drove and rode perfect.
I have a JLUR ordered and when it gets here I will install a 1.5 front and 3/4 rear that I already have.
If you have access and know how making your own is very easy.
If not Rough Country is by far the easiest to procure and install.
Get the RC kit and install it and I assure you it will be perfect for your particular application.
Like I stated earlier 3/4 front spacer and 35's is the best setup for your application. Easy install and nothing else needed. Spacers will cost you $20 on ebay and take an hour to install. The TC kit is 2.5”, right? If 2.5” is required, I’ll probably skip the 35s.
Given that this is just for appearance and I’m not going to be doing any serious off-roading, a 2.5” lift + the height increase from 35s = not worth it for the pain of getting 2 kids in and out of car seats.
I was hoping something like the 0.75” spacers would work with 35s, then I think I could swing it.
I’m confused now. Thoughts on the minimum lift I can get away with, with 35s in city driving and *very* mild off-roading (just generic fields, unpaved parking lots, etc)?
You are awesome, I also wish we were close by so I could buy you a beer for the help you’ve already given me!Like I stated earlier 3/4 front spacer and 35's is the best setup for your application. Easy install and nothing else needed. Spacers will cost you $20 on ebay and take an hour to install.
Here is a pic of my Sahara with only a 3/4 front spacer and 35 DuraTracs.
I wished you lived closer, I would gladly help you with this and already have an assortment of spacers.
My Wife is 5ft so steps will be a necessity on the JLUR.

Awesome!!! I’m going to try to be patient and wait until my JLU is closer to delivery - in case someone comes out with a 1.5/.75 or 1/.75 setup or something like that between now and then.I think you will be fine with 3/4 in the front. There is a Sahara in Tenn. running around with no lift on 35's but it will never see off road.
He is on this forum but I do not remember his screen name.
Later if you decide to go up a little more just add another 3/4 spacer in the front and hopefully by then RC will have a 3/4 for the rear. You will still be in it for less than $100.
I agree with you, as the stuffed look is awesome.
Where we hunt I need a little more tire clearance as there is some mild flexing in a few areas on our property.
From a wheel perspective, I’m not so into the Rubi takeoffs. I do plan to go aftermarket to help with offset/BS, but not with those specific wheels.N)
If I were you, and considering the family situation, I would look for a set of new 2018 Rubicon take off wheels. There will be lots of these out there as Rubi owners upgrade to 35” tires. For your type of driving these will fit with no spacers or lift. If you can pick them up for $1500 (fair price) and sell your set for $1000 that’s a pretty nice upgrade for a net cost of $500 bucks!
I should edit my post. I’m talking a set of Rubicon take off wheels AND tires. I should have made that clearer! You can’t go to 35” tires on a Sahara without spacers or a lift, and it sounds like, because of your family situation, you really don’t want to. My solution gives you a bigger, better tire than the Sahara and avoids the lift kit.Awesome!!! Seems like ideal for me would be something like a 1.25/.75 setup but I highly doubt I’ll get *exactly* what I’m hoping for, so I’ll see what comes (if anything), and be grateful.
Next question - warranty? Will this void it? Installation difficulty? Do it myself or go to a shop? Not a mechanic by any means but somewhat handy. Biggest limitation would probably be tools.

My understanding is that solely running wheels with the same BS/offset as the Rubi takeoffs would *not* allow 35s on a Sahara. At a minimum, we’d need the higher fenders, right?
You plan to have 3 JL wranglers! I'm reading your signature...Like I stated earlier 3/4 front spacer and 35's is the best setup for your application. Easy install and nothing else needed. Spacers will cost you $20 on ebay and take an hour to install.

Yes, aftermarket wheels would eliminate the need for spacers. Also, in another post someone was asking if 35s would fit without a lift...I bet they would, but it would look a bit too stuffed in those wheel wells...For those that don't want to lift, consider a more off road tire like a goodyear duratrac, just in a smaller size...still looks great and you can tell your setup is not factory.Thank you! Also, how involved is that kit? Looking at

Making my own rear spacer? Sounds unsafe to me. What’s that look like?
