searched a bit but I didn’t find anything.

Took my 4xe Sahara in for service and the dealer found all four shocks leaking. They have the front pair, but the rear shocks are apparently backordered at the moment. Anyone know anything? Is this a common problem or am I just unlucky? Some reason shocks are back ordered?

thanks!

There was just another thread this week with someone else with Rubicon shocks leaking. It's so common that if you purchased the vehicle I wouldn't even bother getting the free replacements under warranty because it's just going to happen again. Unless you don't mind trips to the dealership.

I'd go with a quality OEM replacement with one of the entry level Bilstein's or Fox shocks. Ranchos should fair better.

If you are staying stock, you can probably get some take offs from someone local for like $50. Either forum/facebook or a local off road shop.

time to do a little research. Not sure what I want for the best on road manners of the wrangler. I won’t do anything off road more aggressive than logging roads.

I have a 4XE as well and have been enjoying the Bilstein 5100’s both on and off road though I’m not sure how much you want to budget for shocks, the 5100’s can be had for under $100 a corner on sale.

They are known to be on the stiff side but I think the weight of the 4XE makes them ride more like Rubicon shocks.

I don’t know how much I need to spend. It isn’t a primary vehicle for me, but I want it to ride well. How much should I budget? Is there a need to replace springs too?

I need to do the same research for a 2014 landcruiser. Need a new set of shocks on that too, but those shocks are original :).

I guess it’s up to you. If it’s not a primary vehicle maybe you can try for another set through warranty but I’d say $100 a corner is a good compromise.

The options for the Land Cruiser will be quite a bit more limited due to the IFS.

I'd agree the 5100s are similar in ride to the stock Rubicon shocks with the 4xe weight, but may be a little stiffer than the sahara spec.

Does the shock failure have anything to do with the extra weight of the 4xe?

i've seen wrangler shocks leak as little as 5k miles, it's a bit of a crapshoot on how long they last. id just let the dealer warranty them while its still under basic, then look for upgrades afterwards if you don't plan on lifting it

I hope you found a solution under warranty. I had the same issue same car. Installed factory shocks had wrong part number to the car type seemed to be the non phev. Luckily springs had the correct part number. What to say… one more issue from the long queue… Covid cars
